Hi I am finishing up the wiring on my build.
I have it set for a key to single turn to acc.
Seperate switches for ecu, and for fuel and for start.
Seperate switches for lights on and for hazards.
The question is do the hazards have to be able to work with the key out , live power all the time.
I want the key to be the anti tamper switch .

It may depend on your jurisdiction and inspector. But I believe that they have to, everywhere; otherwise, if you are leaving the car in a dangerous spot with your hazards on, you need to leave the key in it. The same applies to the horn; it has to have power all the time.

In my state Hazards, horn, and brake lights must me live all the time.

I still put in a master disconnect switch.

Yup. Hazards are live all the time. Think of it. You are broken down and need to use the flashers. Then need to walk to find help. You want your keys with you while the flashers continue to warn other drivers of the dead vehicle.

Of course this doesn't work when the battery or its wiring fails. Happened to my wife on a busily travelled 4- lane road at night, in the rain. The battery terminal fell off the battery and the car just died. (not the wire clamp. The actual battery terminal!) No flashers at all.

Ok thanks, that is kind of what I was thinking. Just means my blinkers will work with no key as well so maybe add a master disconnect at a later date.
Thanks

I'm in BC, and have a master disconnect with a removable handle as my key. It wasn't mentioned at the inspection at all, and has never been an issue. Of course the bright orange paint is probably bright enough in daytime.
