Looks to me like you've NAILED the center-hinge hood!!

NICE JOB!!

I desperately want to do this, too - any chance of some more detailed pics of how exactly the hinge is done on the hood panels, scuttle/nose attachment, etc.?

A PM or email would work great, too, if you don't want to clutter things up here.

Now that looks smooth & sweet!!

Hey guys, easy now, all of you can do this, you know you can.

Out to the shop this evening. And in the words of the lyrics of Hermans Hermits song 'I'm Henry the VIII, I am' - "second verse, same as the first"

Massaged the PS bonnet sheeting to fit. Then on both sheets trimmed, marked rivet holes, centre punched, drilled, cleco'd, removed swarf, test fit, tweeked, final fitment, cleco'd, and riveted.

Some pics.

Thanks for the kudos guys.

Went out to the shop for a bit today. I was kind of lethargic today, not interested in doing anything. But 10 hrs later I can scratch 3 things off the snag list.

Stuck some aluminum stock in the lathe and machined everything off that didn't look like a windshield washer squirter. whatever it's called. Guestamated exactly what angle and location to drill the delivery holes using sin, cos, and tan on my scientific calculator, then just free hand drilled 2 holes with my orifice drill bits. Installed the WW reservoir and pump and wired it in.

Sewed up some straps to 3/4" buckles and cut out some aluminum mounting bling. Marked, centre punched, drilled, punched, and installed the bonnet straps.

Then I marked side marker light location on each side, center punched, drilled, installed and wired them up.

On this build as well as the previous two I build in a gap between the bonnet and the frame for air flow. Don't know if this helps, but it can't hurt in moving hot engine compartment air out. Anyhow here's a pic.

Next I have to drive the 7 out of the shop, bring in a 1998 F150 and change out the heater core, thermostat, rear driveshaft u-joints, and DS CV shaft.
And that's about it.

Pretty good amount of work for a lethargic day, Perry. Have one of those in my garage some day soon! That's about a weeks worth of work for me at my present pace. :D

I really like your side marker lights. Are those off something in particular, or a store-bought item?

Cheers,

Hey Lonnie
Yeah it was one of those days you didn't feel like doing anything but it turns out to be a pretty productive day. Those marker lights came off the shelf from Princess Auto, I believe that's like your Harbor Freight? Dunno, anyhow they're plastic chromed LED lights.

Off topic now, taking a break from Locost fabrication. Drove the 7 to the stable to visit with the other two 7's. (Maybe if I leave them alone long enough there might be a baby 7?)

Brought a 1998 F150 4.6L into the shop this morning, drained the cooling system, pulled the dash, installed a new heater core, re-installed the dash, changed out the thermostat, filled the coolant and fired it back up. Nice heat now. Cut the end off the old heater core, it was 85% plugged, see pic.
A change is as good as a rest

Out to the shop today. Got some 10% stuff done. Fabbed the shifter/e-brake boot bezel. Sewed the shifter and e-brake boots. Drilled and tapped 8-32 holes and installed everything.

Took my aluminum windshield frame and annealed it using the 'sharpie heat indicator trick' and gas axe torch.

Then assembled my bending jig and 10 minutes later I had my windshield frame shaped. I crown the centre of the frame, to me it's more pleasing to the eye.

Trimmed frame to fit the car. To me the build does't have any 'personality' till the windshield is there. Changes the whole appearance of the car. Enough for one day.

A super job  on both the shifter/hand brake boot and windshield frame.
What is the actual roller made out of in your windshield fixture, hard plastic or nylon?

Thanks Dave
The roller is some sort of resin impregnated fiber material. These came with sets of natural gas pressure packings for a 3000hp KVSR12 Ingersol Rand eng/comp that I used to work on years ago. It's 4" diameter by 3/4" wide.

Did more 10% stuff today.
Made patterns, transferred, cut and sewed vinyl for the head rests.
Attachment:
IMG_2371.JPG

Then I rock guarded the fenders.
Attachment:
IMG_2372.JPG

Then I re-wrote the 10% to do list as follows
-complete windshield frame and glass install
-install side mirrors and rear view mirror
-fab and install sun visors
-fab wind deflector wings for windshield
-fab front grill
-final seat belt installation
-install ex shield
-upholster seats
-install fenders and all lights
-disassemble car for paint in spring

My youngest son is a professional auto painter. After his 8hr/day job he moonlights at home. His home niche is painting vintage sport and muscle cars. His base price is $10,000 and will run as high as $20,000 depending on what the customer wants, so the old man has to wait patiently his turn and hopefully get a deal. I constantly remind him how much it cost his mom and I to raise him and pay for his education

So, what does a $20,000.00 paint job look like, 'zackly? That price equates to about 4,525 rattle cans of Rustoleum...

Yeah, that's the way I think also!
Apparently it takes a lot of labor to strip a car entirely inside and out, do body work as needed, a total different color paint, polish, and clear coat then put the car interior/exterior back together again.

Not a surprise! The cost of a quality paint job has soared around here over the past 20-30 years. A really nice job, in this town at least, will set you back around $10,000, with nothing beyond light blocking & sanding for prep included (i.e., NO bodywork, at that price!). Even light stripping, bodywork, etc. can easily double that price.

Is it any wonder why I'm going with straight polished aluminum except for my nose & fenders? Even a "wrap" (not my style, by the way) would be $2K-$3K hereabouts. Way too dear for an old coot on a small pension!
