Once again my scuttle is causing heartburn. I tried a friends roll flanger for my hood flange. On test pieces it wasn’t good. Hard to keep straight and not enough of an offset. So my question is how bad would this look. I can get what I want but at the cost of a row of rivets albeit countersunk but still their.

I love that. Thanks for helping me keep it in perspective. I did get the idea last night to epoxy the layers together with clamps which I think is where this is going. Jb weld should work lathered on their.

Good on ya! I get on myself too much when I don't anticipate every issue, or account for "absolutely everything" in a solution I develop. It's easy to forget that even these "simple" cars are quite complicated and we are all amateurs - well, most of us, anyway. You're really making terrific progress.

By the way, I propose we rename "JB Weld" and call it "Liquid Duct Tape", which more accurately describes it in my experience.

Windscreen mounts. I hope like hell they are close to symmetrical. It’s a hand drawn arc. Nothing I had around to copy. I must have 50hrs into these little baby’s. Had to be done though. Tomorrow I’ll finish the side mirror mounts and hopefully center counsel. I do have to drop off the templates though so we’ll see. I may sit out and light up a cigar. The weather has been awesome after this winter it’s nice to soak up the sunshine.

To make sure they are symmetrical pick one template and make 2 of that one.

A string and a pencil will make a really good arc. Maybe not CNC good, but a lot better that by hand. Just sayin'.

I really hope to see this at the Gathering........

You know what your right. Ha! 2 hours earlier I could have checked it with a string. Standing at the front of the car they match the seat backs pretty closely.

So will a trash can lid and a Sharpie. Not that I actually know anyone who would do such a thing...

That only works if you can find the Sharpie!

I actually use that technique, albeit on a smaller scale, when I make corner radii on my br@ckets. I find a washer and place it tangent to the 2 edges and draw the radius with a pencil, then grind away. I have used the technique with many similar round shapes, Tupperware covers, coins, flat washers, paint cans and any number of round items. I don't think I've ever tried a garbage can lid. I really don't think it would work. Mine are trapezoid (ish)!

Just for future reference, many materials will form what's called a "fair" curve. They just need to be flexible and uniform in density. Here is an example of a wooden strip help between the ends of a clamp. It looks just about right for your application.


Do a Google Images search for "fairing" or "Fairing stick" and you'll find lots of ideas, including for long curves.
