Well, I've been sitting on the fence about selling my baby, but after I realized that I only put about 250 km (about 160 miles) on it last year, I have to face the truth. I love building more than driving. Although the insurance is only $ 500 for the season, that's still $ 2/km :BH: Last summer, I spent all my time riding with my girls, and we had a lot of fun. And the next season promises to be even busier. So, I have to be realistic, and let go of the 7.

So here it is:
Registered as a 2015 Ubilt in British Columbia, Canada
The engine is from a 2005 Yamaha R1, which I was told had about 5,000 km on it. I have no reason to doubt that. I've added less than a 2,000 km to that.
The frame is based on the Haynes book, with my own modifications; it is wider, longer and taller. The drivers seat is 17" wide and there is another 5 inches of seat travel behind my setting. There is a lot of room for some tall drivers (and passengers) :D There is actually so much room in the passenger foot well, that my kids keep their backpacks in there.
The roll cage is obvious, but I have also made the rear frame from the same DOM tubing, thus protecting the fuel tank a bit more.
All aluminum panels are removable, and the vinyl wrap can be changed easily.
The reverse is electric and a video about it can be found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdObULc ... m-comments

Here are some more specs:
Frame: 1 1/4 in square tubing; 16 ga
Engine: Yamaha R1; 1,000 cc; 172 hp; 13,500 rpm redline
Transmission: 6 speed sequential (stock Yamaha R1)
Reverse: custom built; direct to the drive shaft with a 3.5 hp SBC starter motor
Rear end: 1994 Ford Mustang 7.5 inch; 3.21 ratio
Suspension: Front - pushrod actuated in-board coil-over shocks (Yamaha R1)
Rear - solid axle with Mallock trailing arms and AVO coil overs
Steering: Ford Escort Mk2 rack and pinion - high ratio rally version (2.4 turns lock to lock)
Brakes: Front - Wilwood Dynalite calipers and Mustang II rotors
Rear - 1994 Mustang calipers and rotors
Roll Cage: fabricated from 1 1/2 in DOM (0.095) tubing
Wheels and Tires: Motegi 15x7 with Kumho Ecsta 205/50R15
Weight: less than 1,300 lbs (but it has never been weighed properly; this was only for registration purposes)

Finished build: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=17751

Price: US$ 10,000

I also have a custom built trailer that I would be willing to sell for US$ 1,500

Martin.. A little bittersweet to see it up for sale, but I totally get it.. This is an outstanding build, and will make someone very happy.. onto the next thing as they say

**btw.. so cool to see you out on the bikes with your girls  I keep one foot in the offroad world too, and my girls have no interest.. my only hope is that they eventually marry into a son-in-law for me to ride with

Great car, super fair ask.. Good luck with the sale..

Thanks, Dean.
You're a better Dad than I am. I'm looking for a rocking chair and a shotgun.
It was a good summer, and as long as the girls are allowing me to come along, I'm game. They are actually quite cross with me selling the 7, but it may still be here for a while. The price reflects that I'm a bit off the beaten path, so we'll see.
I'm trying to get as much riding in as I can, because I swear, that bike is getting taller every year :BH: And this from a guy who once beat Bob "Hurricane" Hannah. (come on, you wanna ask  )
Here are my two favourite pics of the year.

Nice pics Martin. Those the Northern Cascades in the background?

Saw ''Hurricane" Hannah ride in Trans-AMAs in the early 70s. Did you ever ride in the midwest around that time?

Kind of in the same boat. Need to seriously consider parting with my Locost. Eyes are getting worse almost by the day.

Sorry for the late reply, Larry.
These mountains are the Wedge group, between Whistler and Pemberton, BC. Very similar to the North Cascades.
Sorry to hear about your eye sight; hope you'll be able to stay on top of it.
I never raced motocross; you could put Bob Hannah on a CT 50 and give me his works bike, and he'd be long gone before I'd get it in gear. My claim to fame , (that, and a couple of bucks will get me a coffee anywhere) is that I beat him in an Aerobatic contest. He was long retired from motocross, when he came through Ephrata, WA, after competing at the Reno air races. We were having a contest there, and he entered in my class. None of the other pilots ever heard of him, and I just kept my trap shut, grinning the whole time. We kept trading positions back and forth, not for the lead, but I think, second or third; in the end I prevailed. Good times. :D

Interesting story Martin. I did ride MX in the early 70's. Almost tropheyed a couple of times. The bikes kept getting better, I didn't. Hannah was always toward the front in the raes I saw. Never knew about his aeronautical pursuits.

How's the sale going? Any hot leads? I will wait and see what the summer brings. If I can drive I'll wait longer. I have a standing offer but I doubt he will offer as much as I will ask. I'll want what you do, $10,000 USd. And first glance your car is a lot nicer than mine. I need to finish up the interior. Been in the plans for about 5 years.

And your mountains are more picturesque than what's around here. Except for Ranier. That's still pretty.

Best always,

Well, as the title says, it is sold.
Feeling somewhat bittersweet, but it looks like it will be used properly, and that makes me happy. A lovely young lady from Calgary, will be auto crossing and blatting around. Her father already has a 7, with a 302, and the two of them had been sharing it. So now he's going to get some real competition.
In my search for a suitable replacement, I ran across the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice. I had not paid any attention to them in the past, and I was pleasantly surprised. Not quite the pedigree of an import, but not bad, and the prices are attractive. So I settled on a 2007 Saturn Sky that lived its whole life in a heated garage, never saw rain and about 20,000 miles. All for $13,000 (US$ 10,000); hey that leaves some room for some go fast goodies.
However, the 7 won't leave until the mountain passes are clear (about August 2020 :BH: ) and I couldn't pass on that opportunity, so me garaj is a wee bit full.

Congrats on the sale Martin.. bonus that it's going to the fairer sex
I know this thread is virtually over, but I had to jump in and add that we had an 09 Saturn Sky Redline for a hot minute a few years ago.. I LOVED that car! (It was ostensibly for my wife  ).. If yours is the 2.0, it won't need much.. a tune alone will scare the poop out of you

Enjoy your new toy

Thanks, Dean.
Yes, this is a fun car. It is not a Red Line, but there are turbo kits available, so mods will be in my future. There are also some handling mods out there, some of which I can fab myself.
I've never owned anything this nice before, other than what I've built. Tow vehicles for race cars or daily drivers, but nothing that I've ever polished before. Sadly, I've observed a concurrent personality change in myself. :BH: As I'm polishing, a gaggle of kids come running down the street, into my driveway. And one of those little buggers is on a scooter! Hey, you darn kids, get away from my car. And you, on the scooter, get out of my driveway!! ... But, Dad, I live here. Damn kids, get off my lawn!!!
Yeah, we're going to have a lot of fun.

I dunno, Martin. It looks way too modern for a Locost guy. It probably even has a CD/DVD player and GPS mapping. :ack:

There's not much to do there -- unless -- you teach yourself to weld plastic.

Good luck. Sorry to lose you to the Dark Side.

For a short moment, I felt that Robin Leach was going to jump out of the bushes. But then reality set in, and the 7 was really on its way to Calgary. Looking forward to hearing how well it is doing on the autocross courses.
