There are a couple organizations that handle trackday events. Two are http://redlinetrackevents.com/index.html and http://speedventures.com/default.aspx

We have Willow Springs, Button Willow, California Speedway, Laguna Seca, Thunderhill, and Sears Point. Of these, Laguna Seca is the best overall location, due to its proximity to Monterey. There are major points to be made having the spouse come along if Monterey is the destination.

I propose we pick a date in 2008 that works for most of us and go from there. The organizations above don't yet have their 2008 schedules out, but it's something to start thinking about. Granted, Laguna Seca isn't cheap, and neither is staying in Monterey, but (and I don't say this often) it's worth it.

I'll add more later, it's late for me, but this is something that could really be fun.

I'm hoping for a first test drive before the end of 2008.
For anything before that I might need to come with the wife's Prius

I doubt I'll have anything resembling a car built by the next season. I do love the track though, and will throw my Legacy at any track, so I'll be there in a prebuilt car. I would kill to ride in Kimini.

How is redline with kits? Do they require SCCA rules for roll bars and whatnot? Or are they pretty lax about it. We didn't have any kits when I went so the topic didn't come up and there isn't much info about it.

The two organizers above tend to have at least one Laguna Seca event in the fall. Maybe we can tentative agree for Fall, 2008. I know it's a long way off but if we make it this spring and no one can go, there's not much point.

About tech inspections, these events either don't have them at all, or it's very casual. The point is that YOU are ultimately responsible for being ready to go, as it should be. I've never seen any issue with homebuild cars, although they don't like three-wheelers, which doesn't affect us.

Id be interested if I'm driveable by then. Im hoping to be at least good to go mechanically, if still lacking all the finishing touches to be street legal (body, windshield, interior. So consider me a (very) tentative yes.

Besure to rent their AIM timer. that is only way to tell if you improve or not

bUt I dont think I will do a lot of track event at 2008. I will try to do another street of willow event next week.

I also wonder what is every one's lap time ? is pretty hard to compare our car to every one else....

I'd very probably go to a homebuilt track day.

Seems like alot of us run events, we just run at different events.

Just out of curiosity, what are the requirements for a car for this kind of event and how much money are you talking about? I have absolutely no knowledge of any kind of track event. I've never even been to a car race as a spectator. And my car reflects that - home built "book" style gas tank, no roll bar, etc. On the other hand, driving fast without having to watch for the CHP sounds like fun. Do they let guys like me on a track?

Best advice is to check out the links I supplied at the top.

A convertable (any convertable) needs a rollbar, after that they pretty much leave you alone other than the obvious, helmet, belts, etc.

Pricing very much depends on the track and day of the week. For example, a Friday trackday at Streets of Willow is around $150. OTOH, a Monday trackday at Laguna Seca is about $320. The same event on the weekend is probably $100 more.

In fact there's a Redline Track event coming up at Streets of Willow, December 14 (Friday) $150.

That's about a cheap as it gets. Depending on our 2008 budgets, we should be able to afford one of these weekday events. Better yet would be one of these AND a Laguna Seca event in the fall.

My brother's Super Stalker should be done by then, too.

The cheapest laguna Seca Days that I've seen are hosted by the Northern California Lotus club btw. They're entirely OK with our cars.

Diyman is at streets of willow this weekend. Not sure if he wants to go 2 weekends in a row. Let me know who is going cause i may be going to 24hours of lemons at thunderhill later this month.
