Wow, didn't get far did he. Seeing auctions like this scare the crap out of me. I'd hate to get that far along and have to punt.

I have read the completion rate for kit cars is in the 10-20% range. It takes a bunch of work for any car. These are not really kit cars, but I'd love the see the comparison between the number of books sold and the number of cars that get street registered, or on the race track.

There would be more pressure on me to complete if I thought EVERYONE FINISHED!


If 80-90 percent are quitters (about 140 of the 159 users registered here) I dont want to KNOW that. I want to invision a fleet of locosts driving away from this forum.


Realistically....with everyone finish? Probably not...but that SUXs!

Just a guess on my part. But I would think that most of the people that would start a Locost would have a lot more fabrication skills, then the average Kit Car builder. It is a lot more difficult to build Vs assemble a car. So my thinking is that the success rate is probably two or three times greater then the average Kit car. I'm sure there are still the dreamers but most builders have worked a lot on other car projects and realize that it's a long term project. [Going on 4 years & about @ 80%]

I do agree. I bet the completion rate for a locost is mich higher than a typical kit. Those numbers I rememebr were from maybe 5 years ago. I think it is probabyl higher now, but none the less there are lots of semi-finished cars out there in garages, sheds, etc.

FWIW, Dale is doing his best to keep the KISS principle in mind and get the car finished and drivable. Then to evolve it after it is drivable. That sounds very smart to me.

Yep, I think too many people get too far into the weeds thinking of new and different ways to do things. That's all fine and dandy, but at least in my mind it makes for a much greater likelihood of failure by never completing the project. I've had to talk myself out of several things.

The only 'big' design change I've made thusfar is deciding to go with a watts link, and that's only because it really isn't any harder than a panhard rod, just a little more time and material which in the scheme of things is negligible.

ME? I just wanna a do a good job on this car...My first car project. If it goes well there wil be other project...time for refinements and BIGGER ideas.
