Anyone use a snowmobile, ATV, or utility trailer to haul your locost. I'm looking for a lightweight and short trailer and the smallest car haulers seem to be about 2ft too wide and 4ft too long.

If so, what model and size trailer are you using, open or closed.

Any photosd loaded up?

Thanks.

I would be cautious of too small of a trailer especially in length. I have a 7x14 open trailer and my locost fits quite well. I have 12" high sides on three sides. Fastening down the car is easy but would be easier if it did not have the 12" sides. If there were no sides you could probably get by with a 6' wide trailer. Now the length is another thing. If you buy a trailer, say 11' long, you have no room to move the car forward or backward to get the proper weight distribution on the tongue (assuming it is not a custom made trailer just for your car). Also you need space in front of the car and behind the car for tie downs to get the proper angle. If you are looking at open trailers look for one with a dovetail. I wish mine had one. If you are looking at an enclosed one you will need 7' wide so you can maneuver around the car to tie it down. Plus the extra room allows space for "Stuff" like ramps, tires, gas cans, etc. that can't go in the tow vehicle. I plan on converting my open trailer to an enclosed one by making a low profile, aerodynamic, aluminum clam shell type top for it one of these days. Russ

We had this discussion a few weeks ago...try the search function.

I have a 6x10 landscape trailer that *just* fits my Locost if I take the nose cone off. The nice thing with that is that I can *bump* the tires into the front rail and then just tie the car forward...no rearward tiedowns required.

Of course, this leaves *no* extra room. Not much of a problem if you're using a pickup truck.

Also, a Locost trailer can be much lower capacity than a car hauler built for 2 ton sedans.

You guys rock. It's good to be back online. I am so glad I didn't sell the car. Now in VA with warm weather and a new tow vehicle. Life is good.

I bought a tilting trailer for motorcycles, not one of those high bed snowmobile units. This uses swingarms instead of a 1 pc axle and a cable winch mounted up front.Pull the pins and wind out the cable and the rear of bed pivots down flat to the ground and since the bed height is low and the trailer pivots from the trailer ball to the rear its a very shallow angle.
I'll get a picture maybe this week with the car in it for the 1st time.
