I have an old two cycle trolling motor. The gas tank is casted aluminum and it is REALLY crusty on the inside.
My options: soaking it over nite in.
1] use an acid base aluminum cleaner, would probably reduce the solution 50%.
2] used carb cleaner.
3] Do not mess with it, you are going to mess it up, and get more $hit in the carb!
4] Something else?

True submersing carb cleaner should do a great job if you can find it. Not the spray can stuff.

Alternatively you might have a radiator shop around that would clean it.

Have you tried shaking with BB's inside?

I have had good luck sealing tanks using RedKote. (also known as Northern. Same exact formula, different color)

Thanx guys
I'm going with the carb cleaner. I got a small link chain that I could try to rattle around inside the tank.
