I ran into this in another Internet group. I don't know if this is news to anyone else or not. It was news to me. It does look like it would come in handy for someone doing a lot of aluminum bits. Since you can use Rit dye for your final color, the color selection is pretty wide. Maybe a fella could even do Slotus Green? Just sayin'. Have been doing this for a few years now, mostly with astronomy-related items such as eyepiece and camera adapters. I never did figure out how to get the Rit dye to work, but the 'nautral' finish looks pretty decent in my opinion. |

We used a similar kit in college on the FSAE car. It worked well enough but nobody is going to think you sent the parts out to a pro on your first few tries. Only thing to keep in mind is that if you have any welds they need to be done with 5X series rod and not the much more common 4043. The 4043 will straight up reject the color so you'll have a pretty nice (if a little pale) color on the part and a weld with absolutely zero color. It's odd, it's a hard line at the weld, no fade or anything. Also no way to fix it except to re-make the part. Alex |
