Is angle section steel alright? I have access to a large stock of rusted angle iron almost for free.

Are you thinking of using it for the chassis structure? That would not be a good choice. Angle has its place, but it is not a good choice for a Locost chassis. It's too heavy in addition to lacking other properties best for a simple, light structure.

Also, if a material is heavily rusted, and if it has significant pitting, you should not use it for your build. It can be cleaned up and used to make things like fixtures, jigs, build tables and the like for the purpose of constructing the car, but not actually part of it.

Cheers,

Damn! That front slip angle is way too large and the Ackerman is just a muddle.

Well said Lonnie!

I'll use it for small brackets but not framing. Cracks easily when bent. Much heavier than using tubing.

Angle also performs relatively poorly in bending and is liable to 'tripping' (twisting under load, leading to collapse)
