Picked up a Zetec a while back. Came with a trans and some other pieces. I wanted to try and use it with an early Pinto bell housing for RWD.

While researching another idea I ran across this.

Looks like the Escort axles bolt up to Miata rear uprights. Rear track width on both is close.

May be a starting point for a replica of one of these.

Or any other flavor of Middy.

It should fit. Related info (see pic) of various outer cv specs not easily found anymore online:

http://www.locostusa.com/forums/viewtop ... ge#p100352

The referenced protege outers should be the same as the 98 escort zx2; same basic chassis.

With the chinese axles, they've done away with meeting inner race specs and just use universal axles and splines between outers that fit the application, which is probably why they no longer reference axle sizes or sell individual cv joints anymore. I'd make sure unmodified length zx2 axles work without bottoming even if it means a little wider track in the rear. You can comp with the front track width adjustment which should be a little wider than the rear imho.

How is the traditional build coming?

Traditional build is still in the works. May have something to post this summer.

One my regular track day customers drives a Unipower. They are unbelievably small. Very cool car though. It would be interesting to see a replica with some more power.
