wheelbase is 83.5" and it is around 56" wide. It is small.

That puts it ~ within possible dimensions for a shortened MX-5 skate (subframes and etc), if you didn't mind some poke out and flares.

NB MX-5 (98-05) wheelbase is 2,270 mm (89.4 in)
Track widths are
1405 mm (55.3 in) Front
1430 mm (56.3 in) Rear

Just tossing options around.

The shot with the Miata gives an idea how small it is. The initial pics made it look bigger.
Interested to see this progress forward.

And if it actually were a race car it'd be more likely to be longitudinal with a Hewland

I dont think it would be X19 based, I'm guessing 850. Can the ring gear be flipped on the 850 transaxle, or could the motor spin backwards? I seem to recall something about someone like PBS doing that to the fiat motors.

In any case, I would post some queries to the H-Mod/DSR people and see if anyone recognizes it. And, if it were my car, I would try to put it back to original as possible. The bodywork looks like it was very well thought out, and the chassis doesn't look too bad either. Any chance of getting more pics of the front suspension and other bits of the chassis?

Could be 850, no idea whether they're flippable or not like a VW. Could also have been a Fiat twin cam with a Hewland if actually a race car. The H-Mod guys may have seen one, odds are the DSR folk wouldn't have as there aren't any cars with roofs in DSR. Never know who's seen what though.

Quick Google search https://sportsracernet.smugmug.com/Cars/PBS/Mk-2/

I used to go by their shop in the 60's and 70's

For info go to Sportsracer.net - menu - cars - PBS You may have to go to the bottom of a long page to get to each section.

Definitely Fiat based build from the voltage regulator. You might find a date code on some of the donor parts. that might help to ID the donor model. I'm not sure if I see a "63" in the windshield marking. If so then maybe 1963? Maybe the windshield is not from the donor. I mean, what are the chances the builder had the same donor glass? Maybe pretty good, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

Definitely a very old race car and not a kit. Interesting radiator fab and baffling.
They put the fuel tank in the left rocker?

Ya that radiator definitely screams vintage race car.

Vintage racer is much more valuable than a kit.
Keep searching, someone will know the car.

Gauges confirm Italian heritage.
Fiat 600/850 reversed engine rotation for tax reasons but both were rear engine.
So I would have to think R&P can be swapped.
A well balanced FIAT 850 with good compression screams, I really miss mine.

Yes, This is a 1965 PBS MK1 this is the first tube frame race car ever built by PBS. This was my dad's car, I grew up riding in this car to school.
I have been looking for this car for a long time. My father sold it in 1980 along with his Lotus Elite. I have all the original drawings for this car that I have been restoring for the last year.
The car was red when we had it. There were only 2 of the MK1 cars ever made before my dad destroyed the fiberglass mold. I have lots of information on this car.
