That's exciting! It's a big hurdle to get any results. Now things will just get better.

I'm not that far along, John. My results are useless at this point. I need to run a sphere or something I can easily mesh for a test to know what the problem is. Typical testing is supposed to take a day or so where mine took about 2 hours. Garbage in, garbage out as they say!

I wasn't sure anybody besides Shaw was interested.

I'll keep trying.

Lots to sort out obviously but the programs are working.

Excellent progress! If you want to send me the CAD, I can run a low def model on my setup.

I'll be honest, though, you've really got me thinking about an openfoam setup...

I try to keep it interesting.

Shaw, can you use my files as skp? I found that I didn't need to convert them separately to work with these programs.

I setup for 40 meters per second with hexahedral (trim) type mesh but my end values are virtually non-existent. Boundary conditions on the inlet also set to 40 m/s, slightly tighter mesh on the body, 500 interations. Lots of other variables that take a lot of time to run separately.

There is a blunt body component that I should have run first, to know all this stuff is setup properly. That is my next step.

MV8, is this stuff all running on one platform (like Windows) for you or are you mixing and matching things using virtual machines and OS's?

I'm mixing and matching.

Third party tools and solvers, some windows based, some not but they work in windows through another third party "adapter" for lack of a better term, then setup within a plugin that only works on older versions of sketchup that are no longer supported. The good part is it's all open source.

MV8,

Ya, skp is fine.

Are you using openFOAM designer? I've been playing with it this past week on my 32-bit XP box. Works great, but I haven't tried a CAD import yet, just been doing the tutorials...

I'm using BlueCFD single core. Open Foam is built in.
Tried to pm you the file, but the extension skp is not allowed.
PM me your email address and I'll try that.

It is working now. I was on time step zero, so there were no iterations being displayed. Thanks to Julien de Charentenay for pointing this out.

I still have a lot of clean up to do on my model. I can also setup points to monitor lift and downforce.

Worked on the model some more. Note the inverted surfaces down the center I need to correct and end result won't have such a long tail, but already low drag and lift with a range of +0.128 psi (red) to - 0.067 psi (blue) at 89 mph. Of course, the suspension is incomplete, there are no gaps between the rear tire and the body, wheels are not turning, and the entire car is off the ground.
Blue areas indicate separation/vacuum/low pressure created. No matter how good the design, the color scale ranges from blue to red so red isn't necessarily a bad thing, and the range and colors are adjustable.
