As has been pointed out, the clamshell fenders will generate lift while the car is moving. I see that some people have a bracket to secure the front of each fender and some do not. Do those not using the brackets have problems with the fenders trying to lift?

And how do you otherwise mount the rest of the fender. Do people simply attach the fender to the aluminum skin?

Front mount on mine is 1/2" round tube, and extends off the headlight bar.

Lotus used to use a mid-mount bracket around the pedal box, but apparently its usefulness if questioned. I did not fit any.

The clamshells are attached to the sides with 1/4" fasteners and wide washers, though if I were to do it again, I would use riv-nuts (as I did recently when I repaired a rear fender from damage).

I did fix steel tabs on the chassis at the trailing end of the fender only. I would not do that again.

You definitely need some type of bracket or your fenders will be flapping like wings.
I made mine out of 3/4" tubing, and I had to reinforce them to keep from flapping. Rather than fitting a visible bolt, or fibreglassing something on the underside, I mounted a MGTD style signal on the top of the fender. Bonus is that I ran the wires for the signal inside the tube.
cheers
Doug

Thanks for your replies. Both are good advice.
