Been looking at windshield options for the Dio Tipo.
Need DOT approved glass for it.
What I would really like is glass from a Fiat 1200 TV, 14" high and 45" wide in a 50's "Panoramic" AKA " Wrap-around" style.
Looks like miniature '57 Vette glass.
But the price is a bit high at around $1,500 JUST for bare glass. :BH:

Porsche Speedster would work and the price is a little better at about $1,200 including a frame and mounts.
13"x46" as near as I may determine.

Do want some curve to the glass without spending too much, so now looking at MGB Roadster setup.
Should be under $500 even with new glass.
But I have no dimensions, from pics they look a bit tall.
Trying to avoid having to cut the glass and frame if possible.
If anyone has dimensions they would be very helpful.

Looked at TR4-6 glass but it seems pretty much flat.
Same for TR Spitfire.

Super Beetle has some curve but is very tall unless cut down.
Not sure what else might fit well at "Locost" pricing.

BTW, early 'Vette is probably too wide, and around $3,500! :ack:

Talk to Stinger! He used an MG-B windscreen on his Cheetah Homage.

Jag XKE is not too bad at around $500 and has decent end curve.
Need dimensions.

Hello Richard, MGB glass is pretty cheap. I think about $120. You can get a used one with frame for $2-350.00
I'll get you exact measurements this afternoon and post tonight.

The interior width of the cockpit on my car is 43 inches. Outside of frame rails is 46 inches. I think the windshield frames legs are about 49-50 inches. The frame from the middle bottom to the top is about 16 inches. The width at the top of the frame is about 43 inches. It has a nice curve. About 8 inches of depth in the middle. Just the glass would obviously be less in every dimension.

Good luck!

Got to see a Karmann Ghia tonight.
Fairly nice shape with a lot of taper at the sides and rounded corners.
Call it 50" at the bottom.
I'm in the middle of getting my new shop built but will try to determine the range for ideal width.

I've looked at a bunch of windshields over the years. I looked at the Ghia windshield. Actually ordered one. It has a good shape but if I remember correctly it was pretty tall. I also purchased a Porsche 550 speedster windshield. This is the windshield that Beck used in his Lister Knobbly. I built the number 9 kit of that car. Again, if my memory is correct the height of that windshield was like 12 and 3/4. Could be wrong.

I used Porsche 356 replica taillights I mounted them upside down. The contour fit my car perfectly.

I know that pretty much all states require DOT, safety glass windshields. I've built like 9 cars over 20 plus years. I've always had a legal windshield but I've never had an inspector check for it.

Bought three MGB's today, CHEAP!
Now I have MGB glass to try out, for essentially free, once I get them home.
Got two rebuildable engines and trans, plus the bodies to sell.
Hope is that selling the bodies gets me the parts I need for "Free".

An amazing thing has happened.
Bradley GT-II windshields are being made again by a company in Florida.
Not cheap at about $500 each but they have a nice curve and lay back nicely, but are a bit tall.
Good to see all those desperate Bradley II owners now able to revive their cars.

The story on these may be interesting.
The original glass molds were located, but the company that has them would not make new glass for anyone but the copyright holder.
The copyright ownership is "Cloudy".
The rights have passed through several companies and the apparent current owners may not be an actual company at all, as they have not been "Active" in several years.
The solution was fairly simple, a guy needing new glass supplied his cracked windshield to the Florida company and ponied up the dollars for a new mold to be made from it.
Then he did the noble thing, he released the company to supply new glass to anyone wanting it, no prissy "Copyright" concerns.
No holding new glass for ransom to recover his not insignificant cost!
