I suppose I have been lurking.I joined in 2012 as nidugo and in the interim I have only posted a couple of queries. My car has been licensed for a couple of years now, so it's about time I made another post. As you know a Locost is never completed, there are many improvements and additions I would like to do, but my production has certainly slowed down since the car was licensed. My objective was to make the car as Lotus-like as I could, in an attempt to replicate a Lotus 7 that I owned for a couple of years when I was in the U.K. from 1976 to 80. I failed somewhat in this respect as I did not realise that Ron Champion stretched the Lotus dimensions. and in order to pass my Ontario Safety Certificate, I had to add superfluous items like head restraints, heater/defroster, windshield squirter and back up light. The donor was an AE86, Corolla GTS, and it donated all the drive train (but the motor was upgraded to a JDM 20 valve silvertop), brakes, steering, wheels, switch gear, pedals and front struts (modified). I did not keep a build log which I regret now, if only for my own record, and building in a tight single car garage was not conducive to photography.

That's a clever way to keep dirt and rocks from collecting in your cockpit -- turn it upside down!

Congratulations. I think you've kept the lowest profile I'm aware of here. Did you retire from the Canadian Intelligence Service [LOL]?

Nice build! It looks very "authentic", as in, it looks like a real Lotus.

Cheers,

I like the color of the nose!

Guess you forgot what they used to tell us about driving: "Keep the right side up!" LOL

They still find their way in, Jack. I guess that's my lack of experience in posting. OK, I've figured out the picture orientation. Incidentally, my car has 4 genuine Lotus parts on it; the bullet lights on the clamshells, and the tail light assemblies which were supplied by some guy out in Oregon.
Thanks, Lonnie, that Lotus badge on the nose cone was a good investment.

Ditto! Nice to see such a well done traditional build. I like the head rests.

OK, I've got my photos pointing in the right direction.
Yes, Dave, I do love my motor now, but initially I was disappointed. It was much too loud (I know you have commented on this previously) and it was running about half strength due to the mixture being much too rich. I messed around with baffles, etc. in the exhaust, but it was not until I replaced my straight through muffler with a conventional Walker that the sound level became tolerable. The rich mixture was finally found to be caused by the wrong oxygen sensor. It was like night and day. Nigel

No sensor. I just jumped a resistor in the O2 circuit, plus an adjustable fuel pressure reg, and 3 degrees more timing.

I also have a Silvertop in my Seven. It is just a loud motor, especially when the cam kicks over. I have a straight through muffler with a SuperTrapp to knock down the sound levels to less than painful. Great looking car!!
