I think we may have found our volunteer for updating the website.

Wait till the site crashes and he has to reload his pictures.

Seriously J1000, This site has been here for many, many years. It was created for Locost builders to share their ideas and progress and has spread to other build types. It does not require a paid membership. It is currently managed and paid for by one person with a few other volunteers helping to monitor the daily posts. Jack is one of those volunteers. For the most part, unlike other car boards I have visited, there is little hostility here. For the most part members here respect others. You too can become a valued member here if you choose to. I hope you do.

I visited this site many times over the previous decades. I have built many project cars. I'm not some noob. All I know is I posted a thread and nothing happened for almost a month until i posted this thread and it brought it to the attention of Jack. If Jack has simply said something about how the website is old then no problem.

stead he blamed me for having the audacity to upload 50MB worth of images. Oh God the humanity. 50MB.

I'll never understand people who complain about something given for free. Constructive criticism sure, but outright poor attitude - that's a nope. He's welcome to find his utopia elsewhere. I'm perfectly pleased with the people and software on this forum. I'll even donate to keep it what it is if that's ever offered.

Absolutely, but with forums it goes both ways. As a contributor my pictures and information brings others back and theirs brings me back. I was planning on freely contributing all my knowledge and experiences and images to this forum, also free of charge.

Jack can insult me free of charge also. I can do the same

Try posting (smaller) photos again, If I remember correctly, this site requires 3 posts before posting pictures are allowed. I may be confusing this with another site I visit. Like I mentioned before, one person spends $$ to keep this site alive. Storage costs $$. If you must keep the native size of your pictures, try hosting the photos on your own site and link the photos using the IMG button. I highly recommend you reduce the size and upload here. I have run across too many sites during random searches where the poster linked photos and later either left the photo hosting service or rearranged their hard drive losing the historical links. If you upload, future readers will always see photos along with the text; a very valuable feature.

I did use my own hosting. Again, not a noob.

Before I made my post I visited every section and FAQ and sticky post, not a single one has any information about image posting size or other guidelines. I guess I'm just supposed to guess.

Hi, j1000. I just approved a couple of your posts. You should be well past the prove-you’re-not-a-bot status. If you have any more trouble posting, please drop me a note. Welcome to the forum — I hope it serves you as a valuable resource and friendly community.

I was lectured about how I should make a post. No, my post was perfectly fine. Concise, detailed, and had good photos. This website doesn't display it correctly. It's not my fault it the websites.
You lost me at "concise." For this particular antique website, a 50Meg post is big.

So instead of lecturing me about what I did wrong, you can say with humility "sorry but you'll have to do some extra steps due to the limitations of this website." Instead of "what the hell are you thinking uploading 4k images?!? Are you nuts?!?"
Admittedly humility is not my strong suit, but I can do that: You'll have to do some extra steps due to the limitations of this website. We do occasionally mention that when someone submits an oversize (at least to our steam-powered web site it's oversize), though prefacing that with "Sorry, but..." would be unusual. I AM sorry that my recommendations came across as "what the hell are you thinking uploading 4k images?!? Are you nuts?!?" [note: the problem was the 3.5Meg images]

Even if you were, we'd welcome you to the fold. Every builder on this site is a former noob.

Nah, you got my attention when you complained on usa7s about locostusa not being adequately prompt in a response to you. May of us here are users of both these site, and some others as well, and if there's a complaint on another site it's likely to be noted. And as I've mentioned, I'm a junior mod here, but I took it upon myself to write you a post and an email advising how to work with the limitations of our DIY website for DIY cars. I can't say why other mods didn't connect with you earlier, but I doubt their advice would have been much different

I think the OP deduced that the website is old early on. But clearly he has a point (and it's coming right up).

It's odd that this topic hasn't come up before. I'm going to nip the next one in the bud by putting something in the guidelines, which may be a bit above my pay grade, but I'll give it a try -- hopefully without insulting the next guy.

[edit: How humiliating. It appears my JUnior Mod License does not allow me to start a new topic in the FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions forum.]

I think I would have preferred an actual noob... While they have occasionally had a similar hyper-sensitive inability to handle even such mild mannered and thoughtful attempts at constructive feedback without dramatically taking personal offense, they at least usually come in with a base level of humility and politeness rather than a bunch of pent up entitlement and condescension.

It's like inviting over a new dinner guest whose first discussion is about how poor the food is.

If someone with the authority and/or skill would open a <Posting photos> thread on the FAQs Forum for me, I'll fill it in.

Put on my "new member" eyes and agree there is not any obvious info on keeping attached images small in easy to find places under FAQ, forum rules.

I conducted a search using term "resize image" and there is plenty of info here dating back to 2006. However as times have moved on A LOT and this site works on an older platform it is a good idea to "put this one to bed" for future members.
