I wanted to drive the 7 on New Years but it has been very rainy so I had to wait until today. My buddy helped me do a bolt check and visual inspection then, she went onto her tires for the first time in a year. She fired right up and seems to idle around 925, happily. We took her for several small "laps" around the area and she performed brilliantly! The 4.10 gears and new throttle linkage seem to work well. I picked pebbles out of my hair for an hour because I don't have the front fenders on, but it was great to hear, smell, and drive again.

Great looking build! The blue wrap looks like paint from the pictures, really professional job. I have a question for you, what do you think of the Ultra-shield Rally Seats? Comfort and holding? Would you get them again?

Any issues making her legal with a windscreen?

I'd like to do the same, but believe Alherta requires a "windshield".

Luke: Thank you. I have the Rally seat and I like it. I have never had a seat like this nor have i truly sat on the floor of a car like we do in a 7. So, I find I wish to have more thigh support but I wish more for a good dead pedal.

Josh: I had no issues with the "wind deflector" but the great state of SC isn't very critical :lol:

I haven't had much to post but I have been getting small stuff done. My daughter helped me wrap the fenders, and I got them installed tonight.

Yes, Gavin, it's looking very sharp. It looks more like a production car (e.g. Caterham) than a home built Locost.

I have a small question for you, though. Are you riveting or screwing the snaps for the rear (boot) cover to the aluminum? I've wondered if sheet metal screws would hold over the long term in soft aluminum with vibration and all.

It definitely doesn't look 'home-brewed' from the above photo. Very well done.
When I eventually have one in the garage, I'm thinking about running a flyscreen like this, rather than a full-height screen, which also (I believe) negates the requirement for wipers.

Lonnie, I screwed in the snaps but it goes through the aluminum and into the steel structure under it. I wasn't sure about it but that is what Jeeps use and they have for decades. Only time will tell.

JAMADOR, in some states the height of the windshield dictates whether or not wipers are required. This worked in SC.

I took a stab at vinyl work this weekend but didn't have enough snaps so I had to stop. I think it is coming out ok'ish.

I had some difficulty getting the boot cover done so I am not thrilled with it but I think it will be fine for the season. It's not bad for my first attempt at something like this but there is definitely room for improvement.

The good thing about upholstery is that it can always be restitched. I bet someone here can tell you how to tighten those corners up. Personally, I'd give you an "A" for taking on the challenge. You're pretty close to a professional looking piece.

Thanks guys. It is hard to believe that the little sewing machine I bought my daughter a few years ago when she was 9 or 10 was able to sew the vinyl. The issue is that the vinyl leaves permanent holes if you remove stitches and resew it. At speed, no one will ever know :evil:

I drove it this weekend with the Turner tune. It needs an alignment desperately but it was ton of fun. It seems to be pretty predictable as far as throttle input, turn in, and braking. So far, it doesn't have any bad manners at all! The front fenders move less than before but they still move a good bit. I think I will have to use a tubular design in the future. But, until then.... vroom vroom

They didn't give me any issues with the R1 powered 7 with a windscreen either. The inspector had me sit in the car to verify that I was looking over the top in case I drove in the rain.
I'm trying to convince a NCDMV inspector to do the same on my current build. So far he's not buying it.
