As much as I like Porsche grayblack... too dangerous.
I used to have a silver little pick-up.
I lost count of how many pulled out in front of me.
One guy drove into the back of it, while parked, like he never saw it.

Go for some visibility.

I still haven't made up my mind on the color..... I did get the chassis stripped this weekend. Have a few places I need to finish welding, add a bracket here and there. Then it's time to paint the chassis. That I have decided on the color. I'm using POR15 gray base coat with their silver top coat. I got the base on a few of the bolt on bits and am super happy with it. POR15 where have you been all my life? The stuff wets out amazingly and leaves a nice glossy finish. Super easy to apply.

I also played with getting the surface rust off my frame. The POR15 metal prep I can't say is as good as the paint. It seemed to do almost nothing. On my test parts the procedure I finalized on was- POR15 degreaser, power wash, Home Depot Phosphoric acid metal prep, power wash, POR15 metal prep/etch, power wash, wipe down with terry cloth, leaf blower dry then paint.

Not too far off from mine.
I did the phosphoric treatment too, but with Ospho from Ace.
Mine'll be a gray frame as well, but going matte.

What did you use for cleaning up the trans? Mine currently looks about like your before shot. Similar with the engine, but it'll be a bit easier to manage as I get it torn down.

Trans I power washed then used easy off oven cleaner. You can only leave it on for a few minutes or it will turn the metal black.

I use a no name oven cleaner from Walmart that is no odor. Just used it on my XS400 aluminum crankcase, scraped off the heavy grunge, plugged all oil holes or any surface you don't want sprayed, sprayed on the oven cleaner, left sit for ~4 hrs then rinsed off with a syphon blow gun first with water then with solvent to displace any water, no blackness.
Make sure you put on your cooler glasses, cause the aluminum's bright

What are cooler glasses you ask? Well I'm glad you asked, they're your sunglasses. You know you're already 'cool' but when you put them on you look 'cooler'

Painted frame! two coats of grey base, two coats of top coat silver. I sprayed both coats with a Wagner Moto Coat sprayer. Base coat came out super glossy like my test brushed parts did. top coat came out kind of matte in finish. I like it, just wasn't what I was expecting. I used less than two quarts of each of the base and top coat.

ready for paint in the "murder" room-

Nice work, your kill room looks a lot better than mine.
Looking forward to getting paint on my frame, but need to get the tack welds finished up.

Getting excited! This is finally starting to come together.

I got my side panels in over the weekend. Had them cut by http://www.oshcut.com. $300 total shipped for both sides.

Project for this week is getting all the flor and firewall panels drilled for rivets, primed then both sides will be getting a coating of Raptor liner.

Just noticed you're in Austin.
I met a guy in S Austin, around 290 S & 71, a few months ago that was running a 12A rotary in a (I'm guessing) book chassis. Definitely looked a good bit smaller than mine.

Hoping to get my Rotus up to Austin once I get it done. Engine teardown should be commencing soon. Finally got an adapter plate to get it up on the stand. Hoping to finish weld the frame next month if I can find the time & get my dad down for a weekend with his welder.

I wish I could run by that guy! I haven't seen any sort of 7ish cars in the 13 years I've lived here. I'm in the extreme western part of Austin out by the lake. I just checked out your build thread. Good to see another rotary in the mix. What are the details of the motor that is in there?

The 12A 7 that I saw was at a 'show'/shop day at Torqqe Performance on 290S.
We were out in W Austin over the weekend, grabbed lunch at the Oasis on Saturday. My poor Malibu was not happy running up the big hill between 360/620 on 2222.

Mine is a 13B (S4 I think) that'll be dry sump & electric water pump, and manual steering. Engine will only have to run the alternator & oil pump.
Hoping it's in good shape inside & is rebuildable.

Edit: Here's a shot of the 12A 7, that I took.

Ahh the Oasis. Worth it for the view but the food/drinks are always pretty lacking.

You'll have no problems with manual steering. I can turn the wheel on my car at a stand still with a finger. When you drop over 1,000lbs from a regular car there's not much load.

Yeah, the food was a bit lackluster, but the view was great.
I gave the steering a feel in the garage, prior to disassembly & it's not bad, even with 15x10 Hoosier slicks on it.
