Blue Sky! Have not seen that in a while.
If you were still in MA you would still be in this 5 day long ocean storm. Giant waves are still pretty cool to see though.

My wife has been in daily contact with her work mates back in MA. They said we were not missing anything to write home about as far as the weather is concerned.

We feel pretty lucky!

Well, we are temporarily back in MA. Had to finish filing our taxes. Turns out there does not seem to be a way to load the software from H&R Block onto 2 computers w/o purchasing it again.

But its done! So I picked up the engine from the machine shop finally. It had been ready in May but we were back in Wisconsin.

Now I will start the assy of the motor.
The block was bored 30 over. I painted it gloss black with engine paint

Did they lighten the crank?
That's going to be a nice setup.

Just a little balancing. The machine shop did check the block and head to make sure there was no cracking. I was lucky in that my head was "mint". Had it not been that moisture got into the chambers and rusted the valves, I would not have had to rework the head at all. I would have just upgraded the valve springs.

I upgraded to the 9:1 compression vs 8:1, a "road cam" with new lifters, and ARP head studs. New timing chain and sprocket, new oil pump and had the distributor rebuilt and set up by a New England specialist. With the ported intake and larger (1 3/4" vs 1 1/2") SU carbs also set up for an MGB, I hope to get about 110bhp. Original was 90 bhp.

I had looked at the aluminum aftermarket head, but every source said that without major rework it actually produces less hp due to poor machine casting! And my head was the preferred head from the factory, larger valves, good bowl design and better metallurgy. So just a cleanup, new valves and bronze guides and seals and double springs like the earlier heads to handle the higher lift of the cam.

From what I remember, headers help with that engine too.

They do. However, the friend that gave me the motor/trans also gave me a almost new stainless exhaust system off the car as well. And the MG gurus do point out that when using a muffler & resonator there is almost no add for a header. Plus the added heat the header creates under the bonnet.

I used the titanium heat wrap on the header. It knocked down the raw temp from 750 degrees to just under 400. Impressive stuff. Headers done in dairy tube sound good too, nice deep tone.

Got most of the motor assembled. But missing a few gaskets/seals that were not included in the "complete" gasket kits from Moss Motors!

And after the machine shop media blasted the dampener, I can see the original rubber has deteriorated to a point where I need to replace it. Afraid it might separate under heavy load.

I also tried the seat belt harness with the Volvo headrest. The shoulder straps wrap around the lower cross tube of the roll bar.

Those belts as picture are going to cause some serious rubbing on your neck, aren't they?

Have not tried out the seating position yet. My shoulders will hit above the top of the seat. So the shoulder belts will angle up from the bar- as recommended. If the headrests are in the way, I may have to rethink using them. Will get it positioned maybe tomorrow to get into the seat to tell.

I started to cut and shape the skins for the interior today. Will upload some photos tomorrow.

I had those same belts in my UltraSheild seats and they dug into my neck. The UltraSheild seat has the openings too close to center IMHO so I am looking for a set with 2" belts instead. I expect you will experience the same with your setup.
