It looks like a pretty generous door opening, not sure how much of that will translate into actual usable space once the body is done & doors mounted.

Could go Gullwing for extra space, though that brings about a whole new set of challenges.

The space is cut into about 8" by the steering column support, but I've got half a mind to cut it out and replace with a sheetmetal something or other. Hopping over the 8" wide sill is difficult enough before folding your feet around that thing!

Gullwing would be cool, is there any way to make one safe in a rollover? I'd legitimately like to do that if there's a good option.(or open forward and up by hinging to the A pillar, same problem though)

Any converns about contortions needed for ingress and egress? With a fixed top, I'd be concerned IF I could get in, i couldn't get out

Going to need a quick disconnect steering wheel, some handles, an ice pack, and a crane.

I'm young so its not a large problem yet, though it is a problem considering there is no way to get the seats in and out with the roof still installed.

Sure starting to look like a widen late model Triumph GT 6 mark 3 from the back to me. Maybe you could source the GT 6 taillights. Keep your British car theme going. :|

Thanks.
Springing for 70's Toyota pickup taillights to keep it with the Japanese drivetrain. Very similar feel to the GT6's design, the Toyota lights were chosen mostly because I know the exact measurements.

I would think you'd have to put in a cage, at least around the windshield frame & behind the seats, if you wanted rollover protection. Not sure how Mercedes did the W198.

Cage would be doable but your still trapped if the door can't open, the Merc SLS used pyrotechnic bolts to blow the hinge apart.

Maybe a window release, or a hammer to break the glass?

Not the most fun idea, but having been in a rollover (very low speed, under 10mph... Long story...), even normal doors don't like to open when things go funky.

I have similar rollover concerns for my dihedral doors and don't want to use pyrotechnics, so have proposed to the regulatory body that a "removeable" hinge pin is a safe option. The main hinge pins are pulled by a cable attached to a handbrake lever inside the cabin (hidden under the dash) and thus will allow egress if the vehicle is inverted. Small brass shear pins stop them from vibrating loose and the lever is tucked away from passenger contact. Don't know if its legal where you are, but might be an option.

That is a very interesting solution, Probably end up routing the cable along the sill then up the B pillar to keep the line from being pinched. Decided gullwing isn't for me on this project but that sounds like a feasible solution to this problem for everyone who isn't an oem.

Headlights are from a 50's chevy truck because it's what was around, probably use these for mockup then replace with reproduction buckets and trim rings.

Mocked up the front ends wireframe, overall it's translated from the page pretty well. There are a few changes to make when I cut down and copy it to the opposite side but it'll be very similar with a stronger centerline.

That is looking fantastic, nothing like sunlight and standing back for a proper viewing. I usually squint my eyes a bit to defocus and pick up the true form, and yours is looking right on the money. Hurry up and build it already!

I'd love to start shaping the panels and learn that process but all the details around how the panels will shut, bolt up, hinge, seal, need to be figured out. Hoping to get get the hinges soon, likely make the wireframe function as if it were the real deal then start laying steel over that so I'm not trying to problem solve with the expensive steel sheeting

Even if you end up cutting out/trimming back, the buck, that seems the best option, to overlay on top of it as a skeleton.
Best of luck!

It's been a month since last posting, Whined an moaned about the prices of steel then procrastinated as one does, but here's what managed to get done.

This sc400 spoiler that was lying around seems seems to work with the curves and could provides a 3rd brakelamp. Started playing with the English wheel.

Headlight surround mockup, there are some tweaks to make but good enough to apprise how it'll look.

Started on the sill panels, there will be another cell ahead of pictured and perhaps a third that blends back into the spaceframes width.

I've gotta give you big credit on the "vision" for this one. The more you get done, the more I'm liking it. Here's a great big "Atta Boy" [SMILE].

Cheers,
