Not sure of the exact pics. Probably some of these.

So how many buy a nose cone and how many fabricated their own?

I bought mine from Jack at Kinetic Vehicles. It was too big a metalshapping task for me to take on at my skill level.

Cheers,

Mine came with the car, but is split lengthwise & needs to be bonded back together once I have some more work done on the front & know 99% if it needs any adjusting.

My wife bought me an English wheel two Xmas' ago. I think I'm going to try and make my own. If anything it will help me understand how it all works.

That would be a great project and make the wife happy too. Some good loft line info for making a buck here:

Some of the links are gone now, but I have a 2011 paper print-out from George Cushing's site I could scan and send. There were some printing errors, but mostly complete.

I've got 2 new wide mouth C.O.L.D. noses and 2 used original size noses. I'd be willing to part with one of the four if need be.

Perry
The two standard noses look like one Lotus nose and one Caterham nose. I've always been curious to see how they compare to each other. The Caterham nose is supposedly taller at the back. Would you be able to post a side by side picture from the rear of them?

I've been watching a lot of Wray Schelin on YouTube. He has some really good traditional panel making videos. Trev's blog is also great, but doesn't have anything on the English wheel. I will probably end up making a wire frame buck and try to shape my own. That way I can also ensure that it is tall enough to provide clearance for my engine. Worst that can happen is I waste a sheet of metal.

Hey Rod, remind me end of April, I'm in Palm Springs this winter and won't be able to compare them till then.

Good on you! I'll be waiting to see your fabrication pics of the nose

Ditto what Perry said. Not that I'll ever do it but sure interested in how it's done.

Heres to the best results!

If it doesn't work out, an off the shelf glass nose is a huge time saver even if it doesn't fit.

If you want to make one from scratch, you may find my composite step by step how-to from 2008 on a scooter fairing useful, making a hood that will clear by a 1/2 inch and mounting tabs first. When sealing foam for polyester resin or bondo on the buck, substitute plaster of paris for drywall mud.

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement.

Hopefully I'll get a good start on the buck tonight. I'm actually surprised not more people have fabricated their own metal nose.

I'm worried enough about eventually tackling the hood & scuttle. Can't imagine the work to properly form a complex curved piece like the nose.
