Awesome info!
I've got Forscan on a computer somewhere, from when I had my F150 & have done a bit on our Flex.

May have to look into the Renesis option, as a fall back, but would need to also add in the cost of the dry sump bits, since my chassis doesn't have room for an oil pan.

My guess is you could use the existing one with light modification to the flange to account for the Renesis front cover.
The rest of the pattern is pretty much the same.

You can do the same bypass plumbing for the dry sump pressure stage, but might need different fittings for the rear iron.
I can't remember if the filter mount is the same pattern between them.
I'm 80% sure the same banjo size is used for the oil cooler lines between the series.

The part that makes me go "hm..." would be the pump mounting, and the gilmer pulley for the front.

Popping in to say I'm going down the rabbit hole of program modification on an RX-8 PCM, looking through to see where the immobilzer code may live, and how to knock it out for standalone use.

Look into Forscan, supposedly it can be used to bypass the OE immobilizer.

If I go Renesis, I'll have to look at how the filter setup is, as the prev owner had switched the shortblock placeholder into a dual filter external setup.

RE: Dry sump, I supposed I could cut out the crossmember that's there, to allow room for a wet sump pan, would just have to fab up engine mounts, since it looks like the dry sump 'pan' was resting on the crossmember.

The oil pan on my 2010 motor is very shallow and has wings on it to add capacity. Looks like it could be retrofitted to an older block. That might work?

Oil filter on the 04-08 motors was in the same location as the RX-7 but angled towards the middle of the car a bit. The 09+ motors the filter is moved to lower front left of the motor.

As far as immobilizer goes if you have the original key just hide that in the car somewhere next to the receiver and problem solved.

That's the OE wet sump? Looks barely deeper than the flat sheet pan/cover on mine right now. Wondering if I could leave the crossmember & just raise the engine the slight bit needed & not negatively affect drivetrain angles.

I'll have to check back, there was only key program capability last I knew.

The modifications are for more than just the immo delete, there's some tweaks the Subaru guys have that I'd like to try, like flat-shift/rev-match/etc.
Also looking to fully knock out the dustbuster, and find the alternator voltage table to tweak it to better suit the LiFEPO4 battery I'm using.

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward modifying the chassis & going with a Renesis.

At minimum, the S4 short block I have needs: Side seals, side seal springs, apex seal springs, some of the corner seals/springs (don't think all 12 are bad), intake manifold, throttle body, and any o-rings/seals compromised in disassembly.

With either MSP option, I doubt my Haltech E6k will be compatible, and haven't looked into using the stock ECU in the interim between install & upgrading to a standalone.

:BH: Cost-wise, refurbing this S4 & going with a 4 port MSP probably aren't too far apart.

Speeduino will run that for 4 port for ~$200. I think you'd be hard pressed to get an entire wiring harness, ecu, keys and various other bits for the stock ecu for that money.

Good to know. Looks like both the 4 & 6 port engines are still available locally, both are auto, so I'd need to factor in the cost of a clutch/flywheel as well.
Still, a lot less time/effort/work, for a bit more $$ & a fair power bump. IIRC the 4 port MSP makes about 60hp more than the S4 & the 6 port, another 40 over that.

Doesn't look like either has the harness, so standalone may be the only option there.

Did a lot of reading on the Speeduino yesterday & looks like a pretty simple option.
The pay version of TunerStudio has auto tune for fuel maps, which would be a potentially nice way to do it without needing to make the trek to a dyno, depending on speeds needed for a pull (I've got the 75mph tollway a mile from my house).

Thinking 4-port MSP + Speeduino may be the winning option.

By the time you'll need maps mine should be nailed down and you can use my maps as a base tune.

That'd be awesome.
Isn't yours a 6-port? Will the maps work both ways?

The timing map will be the same. The fueling map will be pretty close. Close enough to get you started. The only weirdness will be some of the outputs I have assigned.
