Autocross #2 for 2019 and nothing broke. The new drivetrain shows promise.

Car is looking great Mark.
Glad to hear reliability is with you. This road has been a very interesting one to say the least.

Have you done any changes to the original wheel offset ?
How is the steering effort ?

Keep the updates comming. I need the motivation
Cheers
Fred

The whole front suspension and braking is on the short list for modification. Thinking of using a Legends car uprights and Wilwood brake package. Lots more room for 13" wheel offset. This saves significant weight also.

Yes I like the legend uprights also. I picked my original components (mustang 2 spindle, wilwood 4 piston calipers and vented 10.25 disc) on their ease of availability locally and unfortunately on the over built side. I'm keeping the spindle but I've got a smaller 4 piston calipers for solid rotors.

Are you planning to take the car to Lincoln this year ?

It's not if, but when, will race cars break. I ripped apart my 1/8" steel Panhard bar mount on the last run of the day. Yes, we pull some G's. I have the bruises to show for it. Going to 1/4" plate and watching where I stop the weld.

Wow, sorry for your experience.

I'm noticing the tear out went through the center of all the holes. Too many holes and not enough margin space? Just a thought. Probably wrong.

Cheers,

Looks like a fatigue failure. Crack started at the end of the weld stress riser.

The replacement part needs the upper large radius removed from the vertical plate with the attaching holes. The upper horizontal plate needs a fish mouth added to it that is about 2/3s the depth. Should look something like a key hole. Both of the vertical and horizontal welds need to be pulled back from the edge by min of 6mm, which reduces the stress raiser.

I'd add a flange along the outside edge of both plates (1/8 x 3/8 strip) and more edge distance on the top and bottom holes with the gusset/fish mouths between the plates, top and bottom like I Dave suggested.

Working on my TT/Hillcimb aero package. Also upgraded to 8 gallon ATL fuel cell, new harnesses, HANS, FIA/SFI 3.2A/5 driving suit, gloves, full underwear and new extinguisher. After watching Romain Grosjean's 2020 Bahrain crash, I'm a believer in safety equipment.

Update on my track seven. Added wings, uprated springs for better suspension frequencies, less tire than autocross setup and moved to radials, added 8 gallon ATL fuel cell, replaced 6 point harnesses for current ratings, added multiple mirrors, purchased mulit-layer Nomex suit, underwear and gloves all rated SFI level 5. Now all I need to do is drive better.

Yep looks fast, as long as you don't exceed the stated VNE your tires should hook up with the ground and you're good to go
