New Tremec T5z going in this season. Better gear ratios for autocross and TimeTrials. Great deal on a brand new unit under $2k. I could not change the gears and rebuild for this price.

What exactly differentiates the T5z from the old T5?

Thanks,

The aftermarket TREMEC T5 5-Speed with a 2.95 first and .63 overdrive.
This transmission safely handles 330 ft/lbs of torque and is suitable for 450 hp streetcars.

It is a direct replacement in 1979-1993 V8 Mustangs and is ideal behind any small-block.

It is a bit beefier and other bearings, etc.

A lot of info here

Transmission finally in. That took a lot more than I thought.
1. Had to change the clutch disk hub to 10 spline
2. Make a new pilot bushing
3. Purchase a spacer between the trans and bell housing due to longer input shaft
4. Have the bell housing machined from 118mm to 124mm to accept the new trans.
5. Fabricate a new trans tail shaft mount because the mount is in a different location.
6. Swap out the output shaft yoke on the drive shaft u joint
7. Full engine out to do the refit and swap.

Many thanks to:
Lane Automotive- Transmission
Modern Driveline- spacer adaptor
South Bend Clutch- Clutch disk modifications and custom pilot bushing
Action Machine- Bell housing machine work and drive shaft yoke
Me and my Hobart Welder- Custom trans mount

Also purchased this nifty new shifter with shift stops to save those 3 gear overshifts.
