Understood, but I saw an opportunity to bring up the dodge motor.

Another consideration is that balancing to eliminate vibration is a compromise on a v6-60 and 90s, more so for those without a balance shaft. Big, inline fours need balance shafts too.

As for sound, many oems play fake engine noises through the car speakers and not just on electric cars. Ignition RFI could be used to sync those ferrari sounds with rpm. I remember a product years ago that could do that. A number of engine sounds were available.

Several products currently available. Search for "engine sound simulator." Just the thing for an Electric Locost, although a substitute for RFI would be needed.

If you install the right engine you don’t need fake noise.

Engine bay is on hold until I get my plastic engine block. So some dash work. I don’t really know how close I am because no one that I’ve seen do a conversion takes very good pics. I can make the be here with clipping off a bracket or 2 and welding out the cowl. It’s so hard on the finished cars to tell exactly where they are set. The last pic is what I found to be a pretty easy build out, add in some attachments and sheet it over.

Looks like more progress

If you have any questions about dimensions or original construction, just ask. My build started with the GT scuttle being cut back and an early scuttle fit. I kept the early scuttle braces and attached them to the remaining bits of the later scuttle. It should be close to original dimensions.

I have seen that done. Yours looks nice I checked it out. I don’t have access to an early cowl. I just found I could buy one but I’m thinking by the time I order it for $155 I can have this one done. I need 2 brackets with captive nuts for the sides attach the middle column and make a couple brackets for around the glove box. If you have a chance how much room do you have on the corners by the door? I centered this and have 4mm gaps and pushed the corners in so they just miss the rubber door gasket, and that I’m guessing on distance 1/4”? The last step is to make the piece to splice in at the old dash and weld it. I might make this standoff frame in the pick, rolling a flange on an edge for the new sheetmetal cover looks easier.

Steve, take a look at my question last year regarding this same issue over on the MGBEXP board. It should answer your concerns. the top edge of the scuttle is welded to the A post. The flange is left with a gap. I believe , but haven't checked, (maybe I did at the time) that the door seal will slip into that 4mm gap if necessary. If you need more details, let me know.

BTW the steel dash's 3 brackets attach to 3 top-hat br@ckets spot welded under the scuttle. I believe it is a 1" standoff from the scuttle. I can get that measurement if you need it.

I didn't realize it got welded all the way to the A post. The brackets look easy enough to make up. So the dash sits pretty vertical then if that bracket is an 1" thick? From the way I have it sitting now that will push it forward too.

I just measured it. The welded mounting under the cowl is 7/8" from underside of cowl to dash mounting surface (underside) of welded mounting. When the steel dash is tightened up, the dash is near-vertical but slightly tilt toward the driver at the bottom. You can see this on any 63-67 MGB . I believe the dash is the same on the tourer and the MGB-GT. A vinyl covered, padded piece is bolted thru the holes in the vertical flange on the cowl between the top of the cowl to the top of the dash.

How about a Ford(Cosworth/Yamaha) Taurus 3.4L V8 w/ 60 deg angle, very Sexy looking. yeah, a FWD engine that would take some work to rotate. The Yamaha V6 has been put into the MGB already. Smaller displacement might mean shorter from front to rear.

This is a lot wider engine. I also have the T5 for the 5.0. It’s ok, I’ll hack out the corners and slip her in as soon as I order my plastic V8. Should have seen my wife trying to understand the mock up block. I should have taken pictures, really funny, LOL

It’s locked on now with 1” standoffs because they were easy, vs 7/8”. Just have to make a couple of bottom mounts and fill in the cowl sheetmetal. I think looks the way it’s supposed to.

Nice to see you are keeping the original seats.

I tried miata seats in the spitfire. I would have lost a lot of head room and they just don't fit well to the pan. I bought a used set of spitfire seats with good upholstery off ebay since I only had frames and an upholstery kit made in the UK through ebay for about $150/pair.

I'm sure you could use a break from all the welding and grinding.
