7-2-2021 The Center Console

It has always been my intension to have a center console in this car. It needs to be there to conceal the radio/bluetooth head unit, and also to conceal a bunch of wiring and switches (keyless/remote door lock solenoids, 12v outlet, etc.. So it's better late than never that I take the time to fab up this console now. It's hard to get too excited about a console, and it's a little tough to describe, so I'll just post these pics that will make more sense as the unit starts to take shape.. Speaking of shape, my goal is to have no sharp edges and to incorporate gentle curves to match the shape of the surrounding body and interior bits.. I've used a bit of 1/4' round bar to help me achieve the rounded corners..

**The flexible 'door' in the pics is from an early Cougar/Mustang, and in my case will be used to cover the radio when it is not in use, all in an effort to tidy up the interior and not have a modern, plastic head unit out in plain view (it's a Rockford-Fosgate PMX-3)- it looks too out of place to fit the vibe of the rest of the car

That’s cool how you made that. I’ll have to keep it mind for the GT. Is that a stock stick shift stem?

I recently took the 1800 out on the "Faultline 500" vintage car rally in central CA.. The car did great.. It was my first rally, so I didn't really know what to expect. There were some rough roads, and many participants drove their vintage cars HARD.. I caught a lot of grief for using the AC on the run; I guess I'm expected to maximize the suffering in the heat :ack: ? The Volvo ran well, and after the rally I looped up past Sacramento to pick up my youngest daughter from a stay at aunties.. in total, about 1800 miles in 4 days.. Blistering heat out in the valley (about 104-ish) most days. The car did reveal an odd flaw with the AC.. all was well up until the last day with about 200 miles to go.. The AC would slowly stop cooling, and would just blow ambient temperature (103 at the time).. I learned that if I turned off the AC for about 20 minutes, and then turned it back on, it would again blow cold for about 20 minutes, and then go back to blowing ambient temp- frustrating! We did this on/off cycling the rest of the way home. Since returning home on the coast, it now seems to be acting normal again, and I can't get it to replicate the flaw :BH: ..

I'm in the process of submitting all of my pics of the 1800 to BAT for the upcoming auction.. I don't have a date yet, but I'll post it when I get it if you'd like to follow along.. I'm a little stressed about the date because I'm taking the Berkeley up the HAN in Reno in a few weeks, and I'm thinking there will be some overlap... I'm very nervous about letting this little sweetie car go, and how the market will respond.. We'll see 8) ...in the meantime, here are a few of the pics I've submitted..

...Here are a few pics from out on the rally.. I met a very nice guy (Mike) who drove the yellow TR6.. he's a veteran of these runs and he took this bewildered newby under his wing to keep me from being totally lost..

The event had us out in central CA during the day, and then brought us over to the coast at Morro Bay at night.. the cool coastal weather was such a relief for both the drivers and the cars.. one guy got heat stroke- he was fine in the end, but that heat tested everyone.. last pic is near sunset, with the Morro Bay rock on the left side of the frame..

Yay! The site is back :D

On a very selfish level, this is really good timing to get the site back up as my Volvo will be live on Bring a Trailer within a week or so (week of 8-30-21), and potential buyers will likely drift to this thread to research the car..

Having said that, mods, admins, IT peeps, whoever I can beg or bribe; can you pretty please get the pics back asap? Thank you for your work getting the site back up and keeping it running

--ccrunner

**edit 8-26-21 @3:45p.. THANK YOU locost admins/mods/tech... whoever you are, I'm soooo grateful that the site, the text, and now the pics are back.. much, much appreciated as my buyer will need access to this thread. Thank you 8)

Hey guys.. I'm posting up here in the event that you follow my builds and would find this of interest. I've listed my 63 Volvo 1800 on Bring a Trailer as of this morning (9-2-21).. link: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1963-volvo-p1800-7/

I don't have social media.. no twitter, no facebook, nothing.. If you do in fact have social media and you think you know someone who would like to know that the Volvo is up for sale, could you link it/ help spread the word? I don't sell my stuff very often, so I appreciate your help in getting the word out.

*The auction ends Thursday, September 9th, 2021, at 11:10 AM Pacific Time

Thanks guys-

Thank you Perry.. you nailed it.. I know it sounds silly as this is just a lump of steel and rubber and glass, but there really is a sense of loss, isn't there? Maybe that's a sign of an unhealthy attachment to a material item?.. I don't know. I think my biggest hope is that this sweet little car goes to a home where someone will cherish it.. I'd be so sad to find out if it were to get crashed or be abused or neglected..

..I'd better be careful, it almost makes it sound as if my first born kid is about to leave home (which ironically is also likely to happen soon  )..

Guess I don't know much about 1800s, but I didn't expect it to get that high that fast. Good luck on the sale!
