As you fellers have read in the thread "What interesting thing did you do today" I suffer from a bad back now and again. Well it's gotten better that last couple days. In the shop, working slow and easy, some pics.

Just as I thought. It's a real cutie!

Glad your back is better. Just don't push it.

Cheers,

So rewarding to see all of this hard work coming together in a pretty package..

The slats in the grille and bumper came out really nicely.. time well spent to straighten them out.

The little mouse looks great! Take it easy and don’t push it, I know what it’s like to have back issues.

It looks great. I wasn't expecting a 2-tone. It looks like it needs a shield on both doors and a bubble gum up top. But I doubt it would mount on the drop-top. JK.

Hi Perry, Just had my 66th birthday and am experiencing some of the usual aches, pains and afflictions that go with that age. Over the past couple of years it has occurred to me that I can't wait to do things only on the days that I feel perfectly fine as those days are getting to be fewer and fewer. I now push myself to do stuff in the yard and the garage even when I'm not 100%, even when it hurts just a little, that's the only way that I can get stuff done. So, being in the shop working slow and easy is something I understand and I think that it helps us to heal faster. Take care and keep at it. Bill

Thanks for the bad back well wishes guys. I am very strict with myself, bend with the knees not the back, keep the lifting close to the chest with a straight back, don't over extend your reach with heavy lifting. Then after a few weeks I forget and it all goes to hell because I feel like I'm 30 again

Anyhoo, I made it out to the shop for a bit today. Taking it easy I completed the hood release. This car was way ahead of it's time, it has a cabin hood release. The difference with this one is that it it located in the hood so there is a cable that runs up and along the hood to the release. I used a generic choke cable assembly which failed miserably due to it's rigidity, poor quality, and numerous curves. I had to replace the solid wire cable with a multi strand wire bicycle brake cable. This meant removing the wire cable from the pull knob assembly and silver soldering the brake cable to it. I also silver soldered the steel casing to the body of the cable assembly, because the first attempt at releasing the hood caused the crimped casing to fail, they just don't make cheap sh!t like they used to.

The release is the silver knob to the left on the dash.

The release in the hood pulls back and the spring lets the hood pin release. I had to fabricate the pin and spring. The pin was made from a 7/16 bolt that I built up the hex head by welding and then machining a taper. The hood spring was made from a large paper spring clip which I cut to shape with a zip disc and over sprung to the desired shape.

Then I installed the front bee hive glass signal lights and head light assemblies. Once I get it back on the ground I'll align the headlights according to an old instruction sheet I have acquired.

Then I started a SNAG list (you young fellers GOOGLE that) as I believe I have reached the 10%er stage of the build, the more I stand and scratch the longer the SNAG list gets, wish I didn't scratch so much

That's very clever thinking with the hood pin & spring, Perry. Down here we call those "Banker's Clips." Probably because they're designed to hold large collections of documents.

Cheers,

The boy came over today on his Harley and I helped him install the windshield in the Topolino. It was an old fashion install where you put a cord around the windshield gasket, press the whole thing against the windshield opening, pull the cord to 'flip the lip', and there it was - installed. Installed the wipers after that.

Then I installed some hubcaps.

Then I took the Topolino out for some vitamin C and some pics.

Have to clean up and wrap the wiring under the dash, align the headlights, install the floor carpet, and some other interior odds and ends - getting closer

Yes, looking very, very good, Perry. I'm liking those hub caps too - very retro.

Cheers,
