I agree that the rubber mounts that Steve showed in his post are designed for use in compression. They are not very good in tension or shear.

I used those same rubber mounts on my build. They are great and was pretty happy with them. They work very well at supporting the weight. They do allow more motion than the MG mounts as they tend to swing on the 2 holes. If that is acceptable then they are great. Also if misapplied, that swinging can walk the rubber off the hangers. TBH, this is my 2nd design addressing the concerns just mentioned. Image

Could actually make something like this. You can buy just the grommets.

Well we’re going with this gauge package. Smiths finally went electronic so we’re going to run with them. Speedhut just doesn’t have the same classiness to them. Same price though, surprised me.
What did I miss? I think this is just the essentials.

Nice choice. They'll fit very well with the vintage 7 look.

Cheers,

We have duals! I lowered the axle back down to ride height. Put in a couple ridged hangers, my little grommets will be here this week. I’m happy with it. Now to weld it up. I think I have a couple seniors that need something to do. Next up close in the tunnel, firewall area.

Thanks Lonnie. What do you know about car soundproofing? Im
Playing around with my Civic to learn about this very misleading industry. Don’t really know who or what to believe.

I actually do have some info, Steve, but no time to respond in detail this morning. The stuff sold through Hot Rod shops, etc., is very expensive. There are some alternatives depending on where you want it. The engine compartment, close clearance stuff is the most expensive.

I got some stuff made in Russia (honest to God) that is very highly rated. I guess it's off the table now with sanctions, but you might find someone who still has a stock of it. There are actually some home improvement products (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) that can be used too, but not super close to the engine/exhaust, etc. Also, there are sources for actual auto industry products that work in the trans tunnel, firewall, cabin, etc. They come in big rolls, but there are some outfits that sell it my the yard.

Where do you want to place it?

Cheers,

I want it everywhere. Lexus quiet is what I’m going after. There are a few open cavities in the rear. I don’t know how familiar you are with the GT? But it’s like a dual wall metal tube.

The weight of the package for the amount of coverage is a good indication of it's ability.
The flashing tape will work but just isn't as heavy and thick as it should be in a single layer but might be useful in tight areas since it only comes up to six inches wide.

Lots of interesting butyl based pads on amazon. In the old days, it was tar pads glued down and not covering everything. Gluing heavy mats to the sheetmetal works too. Doesn't need to be self adhesive.

To elaborate on that;

On amazon, I looked up "sound deadener" and checked three products.
I took the sheet dims length x width, not thickness, number of sheets, divided by 144 to convert to square feet, then divided the square feet into the shipping weight, assuming the cardboard box weight will be similar size.

"mat66 80mil" $56, 17/ (15.7x9.8x34/144=192.5/17=36.32sqft)=0.467lbs/sqft. 64cents/sqft
"Kilmat 50mil" $65, 18.5 /( 15.7x9.8x47/144=50.218sqft)=0.36lbs/sqft. 77cents/sqft
"Siles 50mil" $63.95, 16.89/(23.6x15.94x20/144=52.247sqft)=0.323lbs/sqft

Check my math, but it looks like Mat66 80mil is the most effective and cheapest of these three per square foot.
You can probably find better deals but these were at the top of my search results.

I'd avoid any "liner" product made from closed cell foam.

What did the axle come out of? I've never seen an 8.8 with deep ribbing around the pinion. Usually there is no ribbing at all below the pinion.

Thanks for the sound research. I did buy some killmat and some second skin MLV and some foam that’s supposed to be a sound absorber. We’ll see how this stuff works out.
The axle I don’t know what it’s out of. I got it from a kid off Marketplace.

Started closing up the tunnel. That’s a head scratcher. Also need to look at building a compressor mount. These pulley kits are outrageously expensive. I need the compressor on the passenger side and OEM is driver side. So all of the brackets that move it to the passenger side will not work in this car. They stand up too tall. This one runs the lines over behind the pulleys which is neat. Does anyone know if these lines can be made? I sent a email to vintage air but I’m sure you have to buy the whole kit. It’s $2600 for everything. I’m really trying to avoid that.
