Alright here we are, new mounts and shoved the engine back. Also the difference in shifter location after I put the front shift on. It works so much better with everything, steering, intake and height all will fit under the hood. The tunnel pick is where the stick would have been to where it will end up.

Since we are talking about it, here is another way to do this without tranny mods and put the shifter exactly where you want. The upper section of the shifter could be trimmed for clearance.

Tried to compensate for trans angle since mspaint does not allow for image rotation less than 90 degrees.
Green sheet box to seal, 1/8 brown strip around shifter should actually be .050 also since the two bolt pillow bolts to the trans and it only supports the bellows/boot.

Orange strip welded to 3/8 rod link is for U-flange clevis or single shear at each end with plastic washer (can be cut from a food container cap).

I like shift knobs from pool balls, drilled and epoxied to the 1/2 tube. Nice for those of us who have a hard time finding gloves that are big enough.

Thanks. The new housing will put it in a great drop down spot.

Fit up the tranny yesterday. Now to make a removable mount with my little Jag engine isolators. I used them on the 7, I like them. I’m ears on ideas. The beam I cut did collapse about 1/16” so I braced the car to spread it back out. Somewhere I have to weld in a support

Lots of interesting ways to do this. If you don't like the angled green tube welded to the purple washer through the blue, 11ga 1x3, use 1/8x2 or 3 inch strip bent to form a mount base with the ends sitting on the blue 1x3 and a hole through the 1x3 for the socket.

Red 1/8 strip caps the cuts and forms the nut plates with a 3/8 nut welded to the top of the red plate. Oversize holes in the bottom face of the 1x3 for socket clearance.

If you want to get fancy schmancy and have a little more GC (though the exhaust will still be lower), the cross member could run behind the original.

No need to rotate the mount so the hardware is vertical but here is a simple alternative that is easier to fab. Just 1/8 strip bent on a vice and the jag mount bolted using the two bolt flange to the blue 1x3.

That totally work. I still need to weld the tunnel somewhere to keep the car together. My luck I’ll bolt
It up and take the mount out and it won’t go back together.

Steve, It is hard to tell where your transmission rear support is in relationship to your cut out crossmember. I have a CCE transmission crossmember designed to fit a T5 to MGB in the OEM nut plates. It is surplus to my needs. I will be putting it up for sale. Would this help? Image It is upside down and rotated 180 degrees from its intended orientation in the pic.

Many MGB's have had the fixed crossmember removed by mechanics to replace the clutch. From what I read, it has no noticeable effect on the car. Perhaps due to the trans rear crossmember being bolted in just inches forward of that. Mine was gone when I got it. I made a sheet metal, bolt-in replacement. I just finished up my new trans crossmember this week. that gets my engine/trans closer to the angle it is reported to be right.

Chuck the T5 case mount is back behind the factory tranny support. Mine ended up square on the main. Beam. There really isn’t a reason to support it anywhere else it’s plenty strong from the bell housing back.

Gotcha  Just thought it might help.

Keep moving. I'm just getting started again. Just too darn cold outside. Winter cabin fever is kicking in. Must.....keep,,,,working.

I don't know if this is a help or not. Found that the Tr-4 transmission mount is the same as the T-5. If you angle your mount, drill through holes for the bolts on the mount you can spread the weight equally across the mount and trans ears. If you angle the mount to meet the same angle of the transmission. I am not good at graphics as some, so can't give you an idea of what I am talking about.

Here is a link to the mount I am suggesting. https://mossmotors.com/mount-gearbox?assoc=94853
Click on the two views of the mount above to get the full picture of the mount.

It all helps. Sometimes it’s just enough to jump start and idea. Glad your time has freed up to get back at it. Seems like time stands still around the holidays.

Finally got to this trans mount. Should work well. I’ll drill sleeves in the frame and weld them for the bolts to go through. Out of tube at the moment.

Looking good so far. Is that a yoke that takes a 1310 u-joint? It looks so large and not sure of the clearance for the hand brake. I heard there is a 1100 sized u-joint yoke that fits the T5 and the MGB driveshaft. That's what I will be looking for.

Thanks. It is a 1310 for the T5 28 spline. The hand brake will have to be redesigned or ditched.

When you buy steel, pickup some 1/8 strip in one, two, and three inches wide. Very easy to work with and bend cold without cracking to make shapes or just weld the edges. Like the center support where the flange could be reversed but the width was not enough for the whole mount to fit on. Not a problem with flat strip corner welded. Don't forget the CAD (card board aided) templates.
