Cool, I have seen those used too. I found 5 TR6 wheels to use for my V8. Very nice.

The car is now back from paint and I have to say I'm very pleased:

This means final assembly can start, which started with tail lamps, followed by front signal lamps:

And the seats were dropped into the car to see how they work with the paint colour:

Which, to me at least, looks very good.

I've also managed to sort out my ignition woes with the Speeduino, I had the wrong board selected in Tuner Studio. So fingers crossed, getting the car running shouldn't be all that difficult.

Looks nice. How much sound deadening is going in?

Steve,
I've put Noico 80 mil (foil backed bituminous material) in the footwells as well as under the drivers seat. I've also put Noico Red (closed cell foam) above the headliner, in the doors, and under the passenger seat. I'll most likely add the foam material to the firewall area behind the dash, but other than that I'm running out of places to fit it. The dogleg area already has factory sound deadening in place, and I'm going to keep the jute type material for the rear arches as it's in decent shape. I know the car wont be as quiet as a modern car but hopefully it will be better than a stock B GT (and much quieter than the Europa).

I was curious. I read a write up on Frontline MG put 45# in their last GT. The closed cell in the roof is interesting. Why not the same foil back?

Honestly, no real reason, I just decided on the foam. I probably should have put at least one piece of the foil back on the roof panel to absorb vibration, but the headliner is back in already and I'm not taking it out again. It was a struggle just getting in out the first time without damaging it, and putting it back in was even harder. I'll report back on the noise reduction when I get the car back on the road.

Ha. I know from taking my own out. I thought to myself this is not going to be fun with insulation. I have to remake it anyway. Ya cool it would be nice to hear back how well you did on it, thank you.
Right now in my head I see wall to wall foil back.

@cs3tcr

I don't know how I missed this new log of yours up util today. It looks like it's going to be a beautiful build.

Cheers,

Looks great. Is that Grampian Gray? The interior is a great color with that paint.

Chuck,
It's as close to Grampian Grey as I could get locally. For some reason none of the local paint suppliers could find the exact mixing ratios (even though RM shows them). So it's actually a GM colour, but according to the guys who mixed it, it's incredibly close. When I decided on another B GT, I had made my mind up it would be Grampian Grey with Red, I'm very pleased that it looks as good as it does.

Lonnie,
I wasn't sure if the build would qualify as a Non-Traditional build, as it has very little fabrication. But, after seeing rx7locost and Tundra's builds, I decided to follow suit. I guess the motor and gearbox combination could be used as some reference for Locost builders (Zetec mated to an RX8 'box, running bike carbs, and a Speeduino).

More progress has been made, though most if not all of the work currently is just restoration work. The interior has been painted, insulated, and carpeted:

The metal dash has been installed, populated with switches, and mostly wired up (no pics of the sub harness though) :

And door windows, and trim have gone in:

Hopefully next weekend I'll get back to "locost-esque" work with wiring up the Speeduino and testing the electrical system. I spent months of trying to figure out why I had no spark output on the speedy, and it all boiled down to the wrong board selection in Tuner Studio.

Still no "locost" work on the car, but there has been some progress. The header was welded up (poorly I might add), and will work for the time being. I'll be building another one sometime in the future (maybe next fall) that will hopefully look better and not have to be wrapped (to hide the welds):

Image

And, interior panels were installed by the GF, she does very good work:

Image

Other than that, wiring is still progressing, and an exhaust system has been started on. I'm undecided if I just use a rear muffler, and make some Helmholtz resonators to cancel out some sound, or just put a normal resonator in where the smaller stock one would go. I found a calculator on line that gave me some volumes for the Helmholtz resonators which should work with the space I have, but I need to do more research on how close together they can be.

I like the subtle color scheme a lot.
Loud paint is fine when you want to hide the body shape imho.

Have you considered tapered passages to handle a range of frequencies instead of a band pass outside the drone freq? I made something similar as a tailpipe insert to quiet the go4 using copper tube. It proved very effective but no back pressure testing was done and the muffler used was an oem replacement for a much larger engine so that may account for the easy improvement.

I’d recognize that header from across the street. You had it on a post this morning. I thought the header building was fun. I did my 7 header. Stainless purged.
