So of course I decided you know whats a good idea? Move the engine back 5".
So what you're saying is: Now the wheelbase on your midget is 5" longer than it needs to be.

...Sounds like another project to add to the list.

Seriously though, that's some great progress.

Progress continues. I will try to bring you up to speed on where I am. Some of this will be out of order. I have the completely unreasonable goal of running nationals. Hahaha. We will see.
Purchased a driveshaft from Driveshaft Specialist of Texas. Very pleased with the result. Price was fair and they spent time to understand my needs and recommend the ujoints size and drive tube diameter for my application.
Image
Fuel tank is mounted. Ended up with a Summit 8 gallon plastic cell.
Image
Both sills have been extended to match the flares.
Image
The exhaust is completed. I'm running a magnaflow stainless glass pack type with a magnaflow stainless final muffler.
Image
I got the battery mount done. I ended up using a U1 sized battery.
Image

Image
Firewall closeout is done, trans tunnel is done. The brake master cylinder closeout was Tricky but I'm happy with the way it worked out.

Differential ears have been reinforced. I had to fabricate top ears as I threw the miata ones away. I cut off most of the bushing so they were flat and easy to fab.
Image
I ended up deciding to run a remote shifter. I didn't like the short shifter housing I had and the location was to far back. I fabricated most if this using hardware store parts and a single rod end. It works well and is stiff. The ratio on 1st is a bit stiff due to angles but it works.

Header fabrication:

I had to build header version 4 due to the engine move. I'll briefly cover how I made the collector. The rest is straightforward tube work.

Image
I slightly ovaled a piece of 2.5" tube. I marked the outside on cardboard and then found the center. I cut some ~20 degree bends. Each bend was set on the perimeter and cut vertically at the center.
Image
Once cut I had a match for the oval tube on bottom. I cut two more 20 degree bends at the ends of straight tube and flipped them 180 to the collector bends. This gave me two straight tubes ~1" apart to make my collector.
Image
I tack welded everything together to make sure it fit and then broke the two primary's off to finish weld.
Image
I then welded the straights to the collector half's before welding the collector half's to the ovaled tube and finish welding everything.
Image
Great success a header.

So that flury of three posts bring you up to speed. I still have much to do but it's finally starting to be final assembly time. Stuff is going on that won't be removed. That's exciting and I am hopeful that the next few weeks will be big. I have family support for a big push over the next 39 days so we will see what is possible.

Great project. I am so envious of your wheelbase. So do you think you are still going to make Nationals, if so come say hi. Just as an FYI you don;t need to use a really heavy 1/4"scatter shield you can use an SFI rated scatter blanket. It looks like your is complete though so not to worry. By the size of the car I resume you are running DMod. What sort of power are you making and will you have any time for testing and dialing in the car.

I will attend. If I am driving the MG in DMod or not is still up in the air. I have a offer to codrive an AS Z06 so I would still be running Tuesday/Wednesday. I want to come even if it's without the MG because I've never seen E/Dmod run and want to meet the competitors and see the card. So I will definitely say hi at nationals.

Good stuff, it is my first time at Nationals so definitely looking forward to seeing all the cars. I've raced against the Stalker's, the Jeep and a few others locally at Dixie National Tour. It will be nice to see Kiesel's Sprite in action and all the other great cars.

To be honest having not run the car for a few events I would not take it to Nationals. I had all kinds of issues when mine first ran such as, leaking brakes, battery not charging, wheels locking up braking etc etc. Building a car is thousands of small tasks many done several times and if you are rushing it is easy to miss a few small details. If you do decide to run DMod see if someone there would be willing to give you a seat if your car breaks.

More updates.
All aluminum work is done. I ran the brake lines and bleed the brakes. Throttle is completed. I also ran the fuel system lines. The engine is finally installed with no intention of removal. Onward to electrical next. There is a local event Oct. 16th and that is the goal for first event. I'm hoping for first drive by Oct. 8th.

Gauge panel is done. Eventually I will take it apart and either paint it, wrap it, or cover it. For now raw aluminium works. Next step is wireing the car.

It's alive! Brap-Brap

I need a water pump the one I have leaks badly. I need an upper injector seal for 1 injector the one I have leaks slightly. Shockingly my oil cooler lines and fuel lines did not leak. I have a bit more work before first drive but I will have parts Tuesday and should be at its first event Sunday.

I love the shiny mechanicalness of your build. I'm a sucker for that stuff.

Can you post a closeup of your rear UCA?

Do you have them documented when building them? Cant find it in your thread.

Thanks,

Bob

I don't have a lot of them. I forgot to document the upper much. I can try to get a few more pictures and I will see if I have any more on the phone that I didn't upload.
I basically used the stock upper bolt and used a pair of bolts with slots to allow for camber adjustment
