I’m looking at a well built Locost 7 roller in Massachusetts. I’m very new to the Locost game and quite nervous about buying this roller without a title.

I’ve searched the site for info about titleing and registering in Mass without much luck. I’d be very appreciative if someone could offer me some guidance about the process. I have a 68 289 block if that helps the process.

Thanks a lot!

Did you try this web site?
http://www.bipac.net/page.asp?content=tag_title_toolbox&g=SEMAGA

It may help.
Cheers,
Roy

Here's another post that may help you.

I would also send some messages to those who live in Mass. Such as "JPS Europa" and "horizenjob".

They may have already gone through the registration process.

Roy

Thanks for those. I have visited those sites. I also have an email out to Europa. I’m new here and I don’t think I have messaging capabilities. As I learn more about things I’m gaining some confidence that this can be done.

You should be able to message now, people need to get two posts approved to get their privileges.

I don't have a lot of info to share, because I am short on the details. Having an old block sounds like a help. My recollection is that in recent years they instituted a one for one policy. If you are going to run a car without smog you need to own a similar car for a year ( and register it etc. ) and then prove you junked it. The new car can take its place. You need details though and I'll be happy to know what you learn!

You have to go through MA kit car registration process. You will need all component receipts as well as donor part receipts with corresponding VIN number from where they came. It will have to go through the state police salvage unit. An engine that came with a Catalytic converter may require a new one to be installed regardless of the 15 year emissions exemption. It is probably best to use a complete donor that was previously registered in the state of MA within five years of going through the process. Look up MA kit car laws.

As Marcus said, there is the painful process of getting a pre-emission car (that has been registered in the last 6 months), then scrapping it...good luck with that. I do know someone that was successful going this route with a Caterham. I ended up titling mine at my sons address in NH and now the title says '64 Lotus Seven' and I got a NH issued VIN after State Police inspection. I kept it titled, registered, inspected in NH for a couple of years. NH became no longer possible, so I transferred the title to MA with no issue. I did not register or use the car last year, although I plan to this year. I will make noises on this site if I have any issues.
Where are you located?
Paul

I went through the process in 2017, with my Westfield. It is a little confusing and poorly documented, but not impossible. I posted a http://blog.garritys.org/2017/08/getting-legal.html. All told, it took about 10 weeks. There have probably been a couple of minor changes since then, because Parsons is no longer the contractor for the MAC inspection. They switched to a company called https://www.applustech.com/homejust after I went through.

Sorry, I didn't spot your question earlier. Having too much fun driving to keep an eye on the forum.
