The Aussie mods did not add triangulation to the tunnel either.

I'm incorporating the Aussie mods.
Thanks

I see your tunnel design unique so no need to worry about best practice, imho. It's already built. You can skin the outside in steel or aluminum without diagonals. It isn't critical. You can provide a smaller access panel over the skin later if needed.

Thanks.
I will need to have a service panel, to fill the transmission with oil.
Also, I will have to stick some heat/sound insulation from the inside of the car, otherwise I will damage it, when I remove the trans.
I will cover it with some carpet. I'm hearing that, that area gets very hot, specially here in LA.

Thanks for that, it is very good document. I will implement quite a few of their suggestions, specially at the front of the car and around the engine/dash area.
Between the engine and the front suspension tubes, I have quite a large open area there.

For reference I did what you are proposing and skined certain areas rather than triangulating them. I would not hesitate. If weight is a great concern go 18ga but if not go 16 ga. Depending on location decide if you feel it needs full weld or just skip weld.

Thanks for that. I will skin that area with 16 ga.
I have asked here, just to be sure, that it's OK to do this.
