its how they do it with aluminium bicycles i came here looking to ask why people dont use round tubes in their builds , is it a skills thing (i built a lot of bicycles so dont really struggle) we designed chassis at ginetta and they were all round tube except the g50 which was square furniture tube

And cost. Around the time the book was written, 1" square ERW tubing was less than $0.50/ft.
