Why will it not work? There are actually two ways to mount the differential. One way would eliminate the wings and make for a more compact installation. The other would use the assembly as installed in the Miata with a slight variation on the earlier mount arrangement. Pick one and proceed.

2006 and newer are NC, they mount differently, so if you're wanting to use the Vodou or Saturn modifications on a Haynes chassis the dimensions and layout wouldn't work. The NC diff looks like it might actually be simpler to fit as the "wings" are a bolt-on, unlike the NA/NB where they're part of the diff housing casting. You'd be on your own for designing the fitment. You may also run into issues with halfshaft CV joint/length differences if you're using NA/NB uprights, and an NC diff.

I guess, I will have to stick with an NB diff.

Found this forum post about converting the Miata to Ford 2.5L:
https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=522719
Here is the Youtuber video:

I'm starting to realize, that this Ford engine would end up, been a very expensive setup when is all said and done. I would need a UK wet sump oil pan, that is double the price of the engine.
The Miata 2.0L, would have the same issue(right?), the 1.6L & 1.8L engines are really old now, and they are pretty weak. All of them are over 100k miles, and at least $1000.

Locosts and 7's in general do not have oil pan issues as there is no cross member. Ground clearance can be a problem with tall engines. So I have no idea why you would need a special oil pan. A friend did a 2.5 swap in a Miata and said it was totally worth the effort.

I don't have experience with these engines, and I can't find a build(maybe there is one that was posted earlier in this thread) where it is documented what is needed. or what needs to be modified.
I'm guessing that the ground clearance would be an issue. Aftermarket shortened, and 10 degree pans are only a few available, and they are very expensive.
I'm wondering what is the difference between the Miata and the Ford pans. I se that the Ford has a big "square" hump, while the Miata one looks it has a lower profile, that may or may not work. I don't see a huge difference in height.

Found a high mileage(330k!) '95 Torsen 1 differential w/arm, should I skip it, or get it?

I checked he used the Miata oil pan and ditched the balance shafts. The 2.5 is about 3/4 inch taller. There is a full post on grass roots motorsports swapping in a 2.5 to a Miata, that should contain all the information you need

Here is a video(GBS from UK), that shows how it looks when it's all done.
They use the 10 degree wet sump(that is quite an expensive part).

Here is a nice side view with the Miata engine and trans with the Mazda oil pan. Does not look low, so maybe it could be used with the Ford engine.
