After doing some Z car forum lurking it sounds like not all versions of the VQ35 are the same. I gather that the FWD versions and the truck versions can't be dropped into 350Z's and G35's which makes them less desirable ( & cheaper ).

Do any of you know if items like intakes, camshafts and exhausts are compatible between the different versions of the VQ35DE?

Any idea if there are significant weight differences?

If I can still bolt same cams intake and exhaust on then the cheaper engines have a lot of appeal (since I'm not intending to use the Nissan transmission anyways)

One thing to watch out for is engine mounts. It's the block is different, it may be designed to be mounted transverse via the transmission and a central mount in the valley. It may not have bosses on each side for a traditional longitudinal mounting setup.

Browsing through Maxima engines on car-part.com looks like this is the case - one side of the engine has bosses for maybe a starter and an alternator but no engine mount bosses.
