Hey, guys. In an effort to be sure I always have at least two unfinished projects, I'm considering picking up a salvage/wrecked polaris slingshot to use for engine/trans and maybe some suspension parts. I know they're mega-wide, but has this been attempted? Feel free to tell me how terrible this idea is.

That may be good at least for front suspension and engine. Mayou may also be able to just convert it to 4 wheels with a subframe and axle.

They uses ecotec engine and transmission from the solstice with a 90 degree adapter on the tail end to drive a belt.
I dont know how, but it certainly can be convert back to drive a shaft with oem solstice parts.

One interesting piece of info from the Wikipedia page

"This transmission is essentially the same standard 5-speed synchromesh-equipped manual gearbox, but the clutch and shifting are hydraulically-actuated, and computer-controlled"

Now that is interesting .

Intersting indeed.
And the angle drive for the belt is mounted in the rear via a short driveshaft. They seems to simply use a diff with a spool and mount a sprocket on the side.
