What is the vw 1.8t 20v engine's power potential comparing to honda's k20?

I am a big honda fan, but I recently looked into the vw's 1.8t and realized it can be used on mid-engine setup (with boxster/passat transmission).

So, for the minimal budget, which motor can yield the most power? what is the pros and cons of the 1.8t comparing to the K?

Looks like the 1.8t has a cast-iron block while the K has aluminum block (if i'm not mistaken), does that mean the stock 1.8t can take more boost and yeild more power?

For 'minimal budget' I'd guess that the 1.8T will make more power, but be heavier.

The longitudinal transaxle availability isn't really necessary for mid-engine. Transverse FWD transaxles work just as well and are more readily available for most engines. The way I see it: Longitudinal makes packaging the suspension geometry easier, while transverse makes packaging the overall drivetrain easier.
