There is a guy in Calgary bargin finder (buysell.com) selling Merkur but also mentions a parts cars. But he might be willing to part with transmission ... I thought they were all T9s though.

87 Ford Merkur XR4TI, black with spoiler, runs but engine needs some work, also ask about parts car! $2000 obo Tel: 403‑681‑4818

I'm probably hitting pick and pull this weekend so I'll take a look for you.

I'm finding that the north american merkur's came with the type5.

there are some other mt75 variants out there but I don't know what will work.

mt75 has an aluminum case with an integral bellhousing.

this is the 4wd version, the 2wd will look the same without the second output shaft

Didn't the 2.3T XR4TIs come with the T-9? Is this the same tranny you are looking for? I don't know all the nomenclature for trannies. There are a few XRs at the junkyard near me, and I'm going there tomorrow. I'll see if any of then are 2.3T 5 speed cars, then I'll ask the owner (he knows me from my own build) what he needs for it.

if it has the 2.5 then it will be the type 5

I've come to the conclusion that the tranny I want isn't avaliable in north america

Ah then I don't think we got that transmission. The XR4TI was T9 only (or auto) and the bigger Scoripio was 2.9L V6 with the T9 according to wikipedia but I've only ever seen automatics ...

What engine are you trying to connect to? Zetec, by any chance?

Sorry, hadn't seen the PM yet...and yeah, no problem on sharing the measurements of the tunnel. Actually, we "massaged" the plans slightly to give extra room for this bellhousing & trans. As you know, the T-5 is a great (and essentially bulletproof, in this application) unit, and very light weight.

Anyway, my trans tunnel is 11" wide, inside, at the firewall (so, 13" wide to the outside of the two 1"X1" square-tube verticals framing the mouth of the tunnel) tapering to 6" wide inside at the back of the trans tunnel; 13 1/2" high at the front (inside) tapering to 8" high at the back of the trans tunnel (roughly where the shifter will be, I mean); and 23 1/2" long (inside measurement) from the back of the vertical firewall tubes to the end of the tunnel (again, where the shifter will be). I hope this makes sense....

With this trans, the shifter usually ends up under the dashboard somewhere. I came up with a shifter extension (based on several different designs I've seen) that moves it back 6". It's made out of scrap steel pieces (i.e., no bought or pre-made pieces required), and is slick enought that the trans shifts better with it than without it. Let me know if you need to make one of these - I made CAD drawings that I can post, and I have photos of its construction as well. :D :D

No Merkurs in Pick-N-Pull. There were a couple Zetec Contours though.

I managed to find a company in Vancouver that specialises in Cosworth's they're able to get me the trans I want and for a good price too. ($50 more than the local wreaker wants for a T5)

The can also get me a bellhousing for the cosworth T5, which would be better than the quads4rods one, sice it has provision for a clutch

Airdrie but yeah Calgary area. Its a pull your own yard and random what they have (they won't tell you what is in stock). People may have pulled bits off (or pulled the plugs out and left the hood open ... grrrr). They are cheap though. I'm sure they'd give prices over the phone.
