Anybody looking for an unusual project?

I have numerous parts that I purchased that can be included with this body. Miata or Spitfire front uprights. Chain drive rear-end from a LeGrand sports racer.

Pictures and price of the LeGrand rear end?

Back on topic: how would a person get a windshield made up for that shell?

Here are pix of the LeGrand chain drive rear set-up. It was originally purchased from Per Schroeder(Grassroots Motorsports) when he was building his B-Mod car.

The blue drive unit has been rebuilt with new bearings, seals and internal spacer. Both the blue unit and the raw/unpainted unit are made from magnesium. You could build a second center section by having a VW stub axle machined and welded. If you look at the pic, you can see the welded/repaired area on the second one.

I also have Spitfire front uprights/hubs that can go with the rest of project.

As far as a windshield goes, I can’t help there, but I do have the original plexiglass unit from the original bodywork. On another forum, it was suggested to remove the roof structure and build it as a spyder. That eliminates the need for sourcing a windshield, would allow easier ingress/egress and help with cooling/heat issues in a closed cockpit.

Bring this back up.

I moved it to the new building over the weekend and began taking a good hard look at it. I specifically wanted to look at the windshield which has been the subject of debate in the past. Well, I was more than pleasantly surprised at what I found. It turns out that the gentleman who made the body was not only some sort of fiberglass wizard, he was a pretty smart fellow to. Turns out he designed the windscreen opening with the mounting flanges in a single plane. A single piece of flat polycarbonate will work!!!! I cut some poster board to make a template and it worked!!! No compound curves to deal with!!! I have a local glass supplier cutting me 2 pieces of 1/8" Lexan.

Very clever. Just eyeballing it, you wouldn't think that would work.

Cheers,

Ok gang, I made templates of the windshield, door windows and headlight covers. I purchased a 4’x4’ sheet of 1/8” LEXAN and will cut out the 5 pieces for the new owner. I should have them done on Monday when I get back to the shop.

Everything is made from a flat sheet. Simple curves, nothing compound.
