Hi Tommy - your art work is very impressive indeed! A strange segway but it got me wondering about an exhaust heat shield that I have yet to come across or fabricate.
Have you ever considered such a thing? I don’t believe anyone currently makes one for sale.
Locost would also be a factor. Any thoughts? Any other people looking?

Cheers

Making this is a piece of cake. Could cut from 16-20 ga steel.

It should take me about 30 minutes to draw it up in CAD. The decision points would be length, diameter, what type of termination of the ends and how to easily attach to exhaust.

It's probably a $125-$150 part plus shipping with materials, fab, and finish labor.

Not a bad deal & something I may keep in mind for the future, especially given the heat coming from a Rotary.

I called the sales guy at my local steel supplier yesterday and asked for an updated quote.

He says, they quote is still valid. I ask if he's lost his damn mind and that he needs to sharpen his pencil if he wants to make a sale.
A few minutes later he comes back with a $2.00/lb offer on any qty up to 5000lbs.

I tell him to sharpen his pencil and try again.
He says "I don't have the authority to go any lower." BINGO

Ok, so transfer me to someone who has that authority.
What?
Transfer me to someone with the authority to negotiate price below your current list. YOU don't have the authority to go below $2.00, but someone does. Let me speak to that person.
Ummmmm, I'm not sure what you mean.

Simple, let me speak to your boss, or your boss's boss. Someone who can offer me a better price.
I, I, I, can't do that. Would you like to place an order?
No, I'd like to speak with your boss.

Today I'm bidding on a few stacks of sheet metal from a bankrupt business about an hour away.

Metal in general has gone through the roof. We haven't hit the peak yet either.

Hey TooBusy.. This thread has been idle for awhile.. Are you still taking on occasional small side jobs? I need a Delrin/plastic spacer made on a lathe, and I don't have a lathe

If you're interested, please let me know and I'll get you the measurements

Good deal guys, thanks for picking up the slack.

I haven't been making parts for a while. Real life job pays well, but keeps me away from any type of side hustle. The unknown aspect of travel timing makes me not want to quote any new business as I never know when my phone will ring and I'm on a plane same day.
