Driving home from work on Monday, I snapped the clutch shaft where it hooks to the cable. My fault, several years ago during the mock up days, this was on my list to change. Never did it. :BH:

In typical locost fashion. Stole an idea from the internet and made something bigger and better.

The seven is back up and running as of last night. Glad I invested in AAA after getting this registered.

It happens. All part of the experience. If it's any consolation, mine was an oil pan.

Mine was an O-ring in a remote oil filter adaptor - my first "F1 moment", complete with smoke.

At least it looks like a minor repair. I had to push mine home after I splattered the engine internals all over the road, and trailered it home after breaking an a-arm at autocross. The odd breakdown is just part of the ownership experience. It's probably still more reliable than an old British sports car.

Mine was caused by an overheating polyfuse on the relay board that I used with my Megasquirt.
Worst feeling seeing the car hauled up on the flatbed.

BTW, I think you can find hydraulic parts to activate that clutch, if you prefer. I think that was the first part I broke on my Formula Ford. It was kind of funny, I talked them into letting me start the race with a pushstart from the pits, which put me a good chunk of a lap down at the beginning. Everyone in the pits was cheering me on, so I pretty much just went for it. The guy waving flags at pit out saw me coming, hesitated and then jumped out onto the track to get out of my way. I eased up a bit when i saw that...

I couldn't find a polyfuse I thought would hold up on a hot board and still work on a cold one. Too bad, they are neat little units...

I've used polyfuses but they only work well in a limited range of applications due to being sensitive to air temperature.

Mine was an intake manifold plug. Shot out, dented the coolant header tank, then disappeared. Giant vacuum leak, no spare plug.

Since we're sharing. No pic of the tow truck but with the oil puddle (failed O-ring) under the engine, one's on the way.

Ahhh, Slotus, how do I love thee... Let me count the ways we've pushed you off course and/or back onto the trailer...

1) Half-Shaft
2) CV Joint
3) Wheel Bearing
4) Fuel pump relay
5) Motor #1
6) Front suspension
7) Fuel pump wiring
8 ) Motor #2

Sorry, I can't go on... Need to be alone for a minute...

That's James Earl in the "Pushing" position. Our friend Kenny is steering, because he was the lightest guy there. I was lining up the ramps...

So, in other words, don't feel like the Lone Ranger there Bro... Been there, done that, got the emotional scars... :BH:

When I drive my car, it's always truly an adventure, because I can never say for sure when I'll be back.

This thread definitely makes me feel better when I think of whatever I inevitably break on my locost. Once it's together enough to be considered broken.
I will share one of my many break downs. My first rallycross I forgot to tighten the negative battery cable and my alternator was wired incorrectly and wasn't working. So...roaring through the last harpin the battery cable pops off and the car dies 10 feet from the finish line.

I was going down a long downhill through a residential area when my brakes gave out (Loose balance bar) fortunately I had the somewhat inadequate e-brake hooked up. I didn't tell my passenger what was going on till we got to the bottom. He responded something along the lines of "so that's why you were driving like an [Rectum]!"
