 Post subject: Rear shock mounts

I'm finding it hard to locate the rear strut without binding on the half shafts. Will a offset mount like this be okay? I'd think it would put a fair bit of torque on the front bushing.
Also, How is the Motion ratio? I Calculate it to be 0.69 which sounds rather low. I could mount the strut closer to the hub, but would need to angle it more - wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

It's a compromise. You could flip the strut right-side up and the seat would be above the axle, or raise the lca mount higher for clearance, or offset from the lca cl with consideration for twisting of the lca (more crossection/weight added to the lca). Further out is less likely to bend the lca. If the ratio falls near full bump, the lower strut needs to be further out.

I am also using Miata uprights and ran into similar fitment challenges. I ended up putting the coilover on the top arm and replaced the rubber bushing with a poly bushing. Ended up with a .69 motion ratio - not ideal, but not unreasonable either. The top of my rear bulkhead is a little taller than what you have modeled. See below.

You could also do a push rod & rocker arm, mount the shocks horizontally, and have just about any motion ratio you like.

Anecdotally, I'd bet the front motion ratio of a Caterham isn't any better than .69...

I found that Gaz 11-17 coilovers should work well.

Inboard shocks would be cool but also a bit more complexity than I want.
