One step closer, house is bought, garage is ready, and wifey gave me offical permission!

Thinking of a mid engine +442 using a 2001 dodge intrepid R/T as the donor car ($2300/ 79k miles, mother inlaws car)

3.5L v6, supposed to have 242 HP

Thoughts on that donor? and using that in a mid/rear engine 442+

Not sure how you plan to build a middy using a +442 chassis, but as long as you don't mind the automatic transmission it should be a perfectly acceptable drivetrain.

take the whole intrepid subframe, build a 442 infront of it, lock the steering (able) wheels so they cant steer...

obviously it cant be a real 442... maybe more like a: 4-10-2 haha. i think you can squeeze the 3.5 in behind the back seat

first question, is it an iron block or an ally block, they made both.

ally block is an interfearence engine, the iron is not, that late a car should have ally block.

fuel system is a single pipe system with no return, the only problem with this is it can and does vapor lock, this can be altered to a return system.

fit a new timing belt, water pump and tensioner before you run it

egr plays up a bit so make sure it's clean inside, its on the pass side head at the back.

the automatic is no problem, it's tiptronic so you can make a paddle shifter for it and one less pedal to find room for.

the front brakes are a bit large for rear brakes so a proportioning valve will probably be needed.

fuel pump is in the tank as is pressure regulator.

good to start with a whole car as you get everthing needed to make it work.

i have one and have considered this myself.

if the head gaskets leak and they do often, you can see staining in the valley between the heads, this is an expensive repair as the heads can only be decked by soo much, about $750.00 to $1000.00 if you do it yourself by the time you change all the head bolts, gaskets, w/pump,belt and pulleys, thats the 24 valve modern engine for you, torque to yeald head bolts and all, the head service is the expensive part.

cam timing is a bit strange because the pulleys don't fit very well, pm me if needed.

crank position sensor plays up but is a snap to change.

if you have to do a head job, pm me as the gaskets are a story unto themselves.

go for it!

Didn't Egoman build a middie using a Chrysler V6 and automatic trans? Seems familiar, I think it was him...

Here you go. Dont use the subframe its unnecessary and heavy.

Awesome ill definately have a read through this.

The car is actually my mother in laws and its in imaculate condition; lil old lady, only driven on sundays kinda thing, serviced monthly, so if i did buy it i would have access to the whole thing and could take off parts as needed.

But one thing that scares me is all the gadgets she has on it, when it was purchased new, it had to have all the bells and wistles, so the wiring is going to be a nightmare, and i hate messing with that in the firstplace. I would like to keep the OBD2 operational. but i guess i can cross that bridge.....

viewtopic.php?f=53&t=14787&start=0

Also i wasnt aware that it had struts... perhaps the nuckle can be machined to adapt an upper ball joing/ a-arm?

And a paddle shift?!?! Hells yeah!
