exiting news!

it has come to my attention that ever since the black death ravaged England, English people that had ancestors that survived, could no longer catch the covid 19 virus or any other virus as they are now immune.

the high toll of infections now in England is only due to immigrants coming over the centuries to settle there and now make up a large part of the population.

being English, i may be somewhat biased

Thanks to the web and having a global "bulletin board" to post anything and everything, there'll always be some who believe it.

I for one, am firmly in the group that believes that 5G towers beam it into our bodies. Such beliefs exist on the same basis as religion. Since it's hard to prove that they aren't the cause, such crazy ideas persist. What's more shocking is that people are actually destroying the towers because of that story, so it's not harmless fun.

#1 It's just the flu.

#2 the flu has killed more people this year than the demon COVID

#3 The CDC and WHO have apologized for crying wolf.

#4 Why am I still being expected to wear a mask...

I propose that in March 2021 we test every American for influenza ("Flu") and report the cases on TV every night......50 million (!!??) How about the 1300 daily deaths due to smoking ?
My wife and i are in healthcare. I havent missed a day of work including my office and hospitals 2-3x a week. She is an ER nurse and was exposed to at least 20 acutely sick COVID patients without proper PPE. She has had zero symptoms and her recent antibody test was negative. The $$ that washington gave out should have focused on high risk people and high risk places, not political gain. No denying that the virus is real and a danger to high risk people, but the response has been so misguided and inconsistent that it makes me really question the motives of some politicians.
I never post political stuff, but enough is enough.
I did build a louver press - i should really post that instead.....

Thanks for not telling me I'm a whack job, to quit complaining and wear my mask.

I dont want to turn this into a political thread, but there is an elephant in the room.

#4 Why are the only states still locked down, Blue states?

Many small businesses have shut their doors and I'll bet there are many more that will eventually fail.
Even if the restrictions were lifted today the entire year will be a write off.
The American Dream for them has been extinguished by their elected officials.

That the lockdowns should continue is in my eyes criminal. Not in any way justified ethically, medically, or legally.

My biggest fear is that things will never go back to the way they were.

Bent-
The CDC estimates that the number of deaths from the "flu" for 2017-2018 is 61,000. We are already over 180,000 deaths from covid-19 this year and there are still 4 months to go (not to mention the winter months yet to come). Can you imagine how many there would be now if no one had shut down. So go ahead and throw away your masks but please stay away from your parents and grandparents.

Roy- your points are correct, however, i think the frustration for many comes from the fact that the "collateral damage" from the shut down is being under reported. We just had a local primary care dr commit suicide. COVID forced him into retirement bc he didnt feel he could give good care via telemed. He apparently suffered from depression which he managed by helping others.
The inconsistency raises a lot of doubts too.
For example - I see a lot of patients from the Groton submarine base. They are not messing around! I sent one patient to the hospital for an MRI - he had to quarantine for 2 weeks as a result Before the subs leave port they sit there for 2 weeks with the crew on board as a safety measure.
2 weeks ago we could only go to Rhode Island (about 1/4 mile from where i live in CT) for 23 hours but not 24. We cant park in the beach parking lot but we can go to the beach.
This week we can go to RI for more than 24 hours but still cant park at the beach, even at 6pm (we surf there)

The only way that COVID goes away is herd immunity (a combo of infections and vaccines) or if in mutates into something benign. All the vaccines use messenger RNA technology. No mRNA vaccine has ever made it to market though some of these certainly will. I just bought some Pfizer stock.....

On topic: Here is the louver press i built. 6x6x3/8 tubing, 42" throat. I bought a 3" die set from Mittler Brothers. The mechanical linkage works great.

guys, this was tongue in cheek, but the rest of the world seem to be waking up to the thought it may be a false flag or at least an extreme over reaction judging by the demonstrations in cities in Europe.

there are many controversial choices that have been made around this and i hope that over the next few years that they proved to be for the most part correct, only history will tell.

if however, god forbid it should prove otherwise, then where do we stand and who can we trust ?

I did see the photo, Sean. Yes, I would encourage you to make a thread in the tools area.

Interestingly, the September/October, 2020 issue of The Home Shop Machinist has an article on making the punch and die set for louvers. The example there is small for our purposes, but the principles should scale up.

Cheers,

Wifey Dearest and I are in quarantine waiting on Sister In Law's COVID results to come back.
She's experiencing symptoms. Fever, loss of smell, loss of taste

Speaking as a high-risk person (elderly, diabetic, high blood pressure) I’m going to keep wearing my mask. And I’m voting by mail too. Any Oregonian who tries to vote in person is an idiot, in my opinion, or at least hasn’t been paying attention to the news for a heck of a long time.

Well my take on the mask is it probably won't help, but it definitely won't hurt. And anyway, my predominately conservative city has mandated them in all public spaces.

That said, I am out of work right now and very eager for things to get back to normal. I haven't even been able to find remote work, despite being a CAD designer. :BH:

You're not going to -regret- wearing a mask.

You are not going to -regret- wearing a seatbelt.

You are not going to -regret- using a condom.

That was a joke, BTW, Oregon stopped doing in-person voting back in the 20th Century. It's all mail-in now. We seem to be happy with it, so far.
