For mild steel finish just Parkerize.
Simple process I use all the time.
A couple of chemicals diluted in hot water, stainless tank.
Works best if the item is grit blasted first.
Brownells.com will set you up.

Sorry to hear of your family's brush with the COVID-19 bug, Tommy.

I think Parkerizing would be a great treatment for the outdoor objects; wind chimes, metal birds and such. So far most stuff has been getting Satin Rustoleum.

Signs and wall hangings have been getting a variety of finishes from torch bluing to multiple coats of enamel, to hot oil bluing.

I thought I'd give you guys an update on the plasma table projects.
F Bombs were a nice starting point, lately I've been doing a lot of art pieces.

Thanks Guys
My brother is the true artist in the family. I've just learned a thing or two over the years about steel, heat, and recently patience.

Next up I'll be adding some airbrushing to torched pieces for a little extra pop.

Steel prices! OMG!

I got a quote today on 16ga hot rolled pickled and oiled mild steel. $2.48 / lb in lots of 1000-5000 lbs, $3.10 under 1000 lbs

2 months ago I paid $0.79 / lb for the same material and quantity.

Steel prices? Wow is right!
Last year I bought 192' of 1.25" x.100" square tube for $345.60, today that same amount will cost me $864! That's an increase of 150%
Think I'll hold off building the next Super 7

So, dumb question, "What is causing the increase while there is a slump in the world economy?" Prices should be going down with demand. Huh?

It is unbelievable that almost everything is going up in price, yet the official inflation rate does not even approach the increases we have seen at the check outs. Even at these rates, it seems that the stores are short on inventory.

On the other hand, I don't think the salvage yards like car-part.com or LKQ have raised their prices. If they have, it hasn't been 2x-3x like steel and lumber.

How deep do you want to go? I'm surprised it isn't worse than it is (yet). Were printing money like crazy driving down the value of the dollar, sending the bulk of that money to other economies, paying people more to stay home than they would get to work, therefore producing less so less to buy, while slowly bring people back out to play/spend.

The steel was overpriced to begin with. We reinvested in the steel industry but China buying up all the scrap drove demand. China undervalues the yuan at the expense of their own inflation to essentially receive a subsidy.

Demands in recent years by U.S. lawmakers to revalue the yuan have grown in direct proportion to the nation’s burgeoning trade deficit with China, which soared from $10 billion in 1990 to $315 billion in 2012. Critics of China’s currency policy claim that the undervalued yuan exacerbates global imbalances and costs jobs. According to a study by the Economic Policy Institute in 2011, the U.S. lost 2.7 million jobs - mainly in the manufacturing sector - between 2001(when China entered the WTO) and 2011, resulting in $37 billion in annual wage losses because these displaced skilled workers had to settle for jobs that paid much less.

Spot on rampant inflation in some markets directly related to printing money and ignoring china's fiscal policy. Couple that with some minor logistics issues related to COVID and it's a crap show.

Hi Tommy - your art work is very impressive indeed! A strange segway but it got me wondering about an exhaust heat shield that I have yet to come across or fabricate.
Have you ever considered such a thing? I don’t believe anyone currently makes one for sale.
Locost would also be a factor. Any thoughts? Any other people looking?

Cheers
-Robert
