I am going to have some custom seat covers for my kirkey seats made but I am not sure what to ask from my upholstery shop. Any suggestions? Car will be painted Jaguar Velocity Blue. I also have bright red six point harnesses. I see most cars have black seats. Any issues with the black being too hot from being in the sun when the car is parked outside? My current thought is either straight black with red sticking or black with red centers.

Black with red piping looked best in my car but were a pain in the rear LITERALLY!!!!! They would get skin burning hot after 10 minutes in the sun. I'm so glad my wife talked me into going light grey with a ventilated red insert when I put the narrowed 914 seats in. Russ

Are you wanting the most comfortable, or the best looking? Fabric seat covers, period! Not vinyl or leather. Your back and bottom will thank you. Color is subjective. I liked my Gray fabric seats. I never got burned or sweated away 5 lbs. Well, Maybe I did sweat some on that first drive down to The Hub But most of the time I was comfortable.

All my 7's have black vinyl seats and yes they get HOT in the sun. The reason for vinyl is that they are somewhat water proof for when you get caught in the rain.
Our fix was to throw a towel over each seat when parked in the sun.

I had some made with a grey herringbone upholstery fabric. Very comfortable temperature-wise and less sliding than leather as well.

Oh ho ho! I could tell you stories that involved Vaseline and leather! Never mind, I'd get kicked off this site.............

Ha Ha Ha Chuck, I had the same experience with a Skidoo seat and silicone - we had to move over to a snow drift
And thats my quota of rubbish talk this month

I like the idea of gray with red sticthing. It will be a fabric of some kind and not leather or vinyl. Need to see what my upholstery guy recommends. I want the same as the BAC mono that Top Gear drove, but don't know where to get it.

I've not used them myself, but the neoprene covers are waterproof and supposedly not too hot in the sun. Cloth facing to stay cool, neoprene liner for waterproofing. Also supposed to be very durable.

Planning a Duratec powered, Miata suspended 442

Glue 1 inch, high density foam to the shell bottom, thinner foam around the back and bolster and rivet a few male snaps around the back edge before taking it to the upholsterer. Heavy, marine grade, grey canvas with heavy outdoor stitching to hold the shape. Keep the foam out of the fabric so it is easier to remove and wash. Instead of snaps, a loop of fabric can be added around the edge to hold a draw string to secure the cover, like a hoodie.
