I'd expect the quick change to be straight cut and noisy.

I'd go with a merc S class 2.65:1 diff and a separate reverse-only box direct coupled to the pinion flange and mounted rigid to the diff housing for a single driveshaft.

Mind me asking if it was a smooth transaction with BaT?

I've listed 2 cars through BaT now, and I can't say enough good things about the experience selling with them. (I'm old-school, and used to use AutoTrader (weekly magazine and then online) and Craigslist back in the day).. My recent BaT auction went very well with an outstanding result, and the behind the scenes stuff went just as well.. My buyer made contact right after winning the car, paid immediately, and took the car home within 4 days (he's regional).. A great experience, and a great way to get a niche/ special car in front of an audience that's interested in cool/offbeat/vintage stuff.. If you're considering listing on BaT, I say go for it

Gathering parts as I continue to sort and mod..

Fuel tank is first up.. I recently discovered a minor leak in my yellow VFR bike tank, so I've swapped it out for this 12x15x9 Eight Gallon unit (mocked into place for these pics).. Nothing fancy- no bladder or foam. I've moved to this particular tank for packaging, and to move up to 8.0 gallons (the yellow bike tank held 5.5 gallons).. This car doesn't get very good mileage (high rpms on the freeway eats gas), and I wanted to add a bit of capacity and have fewer fuel stops..

Steel wheels and skinny tires... I'm setting myself up with 2 sets of tires and wheels (a daily set and a track set).. The silver steelies in the pic will be the dailies.. these rims are 13x 4.5.. I'll mount Firestone "F560" - 145r13 tires on them, and the tires/wheels/stance will look a bit more period correct (thinking they need to be cream-white?) than the old tires and wheels that I have been running..

That small tank (just over 1 cubic foot) looks HUGE back there!

I know Kartracer.. everything about this car is tiny

..speaking of tiny.. can anyone here ID this trailer? I think it's a "PAV 40".. European design- late 50's(?).. I'd be curious to know if anyone here has ever had one, or knows of where one is for sale? I think they're mostly for the Vespa crowd(?).. I have not yet dug around much.. looking to learn about these.. Any info would be appreciated

To build a PAV in the spirit of an original but compatible with the Berkley performance and cruise, I’d go with a bias ply 4.80-8 wheel 4x4 bp (4x100mm) and M rated (to 81mph) 6pr load c, mounted to a ford aspire rear axle drum hub attached to the end of a single, 26x1-3/4 trailer leaf spring, cut off forward of the clamp area where the axle would normally go.
The aspire hub bolts on to a flat flange on a steel twist beam. You could cut the drum off to leave the bolt flange to reduce the weight. The drums are tiny and light already.
Tire od is around 16 inches.

I've not seen a smaller wheel tire with a rating of M or better. ST is 65mph, J is 61mph.

Dean, looks like you have a serious wildfire going in your neck of the woods. :ack:
Hope the wind keeps the smoke (and flames) well south of you.

Hi guys :D ... build my own trailer?.... ooof! I think I might be getting lazy.. I love the thought of having a cute little one-off mini trailer, but I just don't have the gumption to go out and make one- at least not right now.. and those little PAV tagalongs are so cute just as they are!

I haven't been in the garage in earnest since early August... I sort of knew this downtime would come.. I burned myself out on building/ 'car stuff' over the spring/summer, but it's already mid October, and I had assumed the itch to fab would be back by now.. Not yet it seems, as I'm still just goofing off every weekend, without feeling the pull toward the build table.. Weird how the muse just comes and goes..

I am gathering Berkeley parts though.. and I've become internet-enamored with wee trailers.. so back at it all soon.. Today we're going to ride bikes in Avila and go to some youth craft show my wife wants to see.. A few more 'craft shows' and I'll be back to building a car in no time

Tom- as to the fires.. no immediate threat to us, but it is regionally close, and that wind is just wicked, even when it's not fueling a fire! I know they've reopened highway 101, but they're still working on knocking the fire down completely- brave people those firefighter

I get the same thing with the pull for building. I think I went 2 months on the 7 without even looking at it. This looks awesome as usual. The breaks are good, even just sitting in a chair next to it with your favorite beverage you see stuff you’ll want to write down and do later. If you don’t write it down you’ll forget,LOL.
