Messing with the sound..
One of the coolest things about this little VFR800 lump is it's signature sound.. it's pretty cool.. One of the least cool things about this car is that at 6-7K rpms on the freeway, that cool VFR sound beats you up in just a short time.. So what to do?
I've already incorporated an exhaust cutout up near the motor for when I feel like upsetting the neighbors, so I can get loud and rowdy when I want to.. For the rest of the time, when I'm actually driving the car, I want to turn things down a bit.
I'm running a carbon fiber 2 Brothers silencer up in the engine bay, but it is not enough for my liking, so I'm trying an experiment as I fashion the worlds thinnest muffler, Flowmaster style.
I've taken some 16 gauge stainless, and I've fashioned a very slim muffler that is 1" thick, 18" long, and 9" wide. Inside, I've styled it pretty much along the lines of a Flowmaster 50 series muffler, with a lot of compromises. I know this is a pretty unorthodox approach, but my thought is that I've incorporated some baffling into the space of my exsisting exhaust run; at no point in the muffler does it choke down to less than a 1"x3" passage, which is the size of my rectangular exhaust tubing. I have no idea if it will work and give me my intended result.. we'll see.. or more correctly, we'll hear
